Hello,

a while ago i read on this forum
an interesting article/solution
to remove "Acrobat icons"
of Genos files.
It has to do with Windows
assigning default program to files to open.

Can't find it on this forum anymore.

Please, can someone help me finding this article/author?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Vanzee

I don't know where the theme got lost, but check out this video that explains the icons problem. In the description you have the links you need.

Hi ckobu, Casper

Thank you very much for the effort, I appreciate your thoughts.
Great video on Youtube.
However this is not what I'm looking for.

The problem is that involuntarily the progr. "Acrobat" to the Registration files
as standard program for opening was granted in Windows on the PC.
As a result, all Registration files on the PC are now provided
from the "Acrobat pdf" icon.
The author of the solution to this managed to answer his question himself
on this forum.
The solution is to change the extension of a Registration file
change it to an extension that is not recognized by Windows,
so that the icon becomes a "blank page".
I remember the author is someone who posts regularly
post on the forum, but I can't remember who.
The topic is from some time ago.
I can't quite remember the correct procedure,
I do remember that the PC had to be restarted.

Hi Eddy,

To change the program/icon associated with the .reg extension, right click on the
registration file, select open with and choose open with other app and then choose the program
with which you want to open the file  for example Yamaha register manager and select the option always use this app  to open.

Hi daikatana, Aad
thank you for thinking along.
I have already tried the method you described
to set a default program to open a file.

However, I don't want to open the registration files on the PC,
I just want the accidental attributed "Acrobat" icon
to be replaced by the icon of a "blank page". (how it was before)
In the past I was only able to do this by applying the method
posted on this forum a while ago by someone who
had the same problem and came up with the solution.
I can't remember the name of this person, it was someone
who regulary posts.

Hi Eddy,

just do as suggested by Aad (daikatana) before, but select "Editor" as program to open Registration Bank files (.rgt). And be sure that the "always use this app" option is selected before clicking OK.

Chris

Hi Eddy,

There are some options to remove the file associations.
One is described here but I don't know if it works
https://techjourney.net/how-to-unassociate-remove-file-types-extension-default-app-associations-in-windows-10-8-7-vista/

Another method is described in option 4 on
https://techcult.com/how-to-remove-file-type-associations-in-windows-10/

My preferred method is  remove then from the registry as described here:
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/how-to-remove-file-type-associations-using-registry-editor
but you can destroy your windows if you make a mistake!!!!!!!!

Aad

Hi Chris and Aad,
thank you both for the welcome help.
The problem is on a friend's PC,
as soon as I visit him I will try the suggested methods.
I'll let you know what the result is.
(may take several weeks)

The 2nd method "Option4" in Aad's answer (daikatana)
is most similar to the method I'm looking for and read before
on this forum.

Hi Eddy,

Thanks for your feedback!

In my opinion, the most important thing about a Windows PC in this context is that the display of all file extensions is switched on in Windows Explorer. (By default, Window hides "known" extensions.)

Which ICON a file has (depending on which standard program/app it is assigned to) is more of an "optical thing" (if you don't want to open the relevant file type in Windows anyway by double-clicking in a certain program).

I would just use the file extensions as a guide (in this case ".rgt"). Otherwise, I recommend simply assigning the "Editor" or "Notepad" program to the .rgt files (as described above via "Open with") as the default program/app. Then a neutral "sheet of paper" is displayed as the icon.

Best regards,
Chris

Hello friends,
I tried your suggestions on the PC of my friend.

First I have tried option "4" of:
https://techcult.com/how-to-remove-file-type-associations-in-windows-10/
This ultimately didn't work because Windows10 would not accept the "dummy" file.

After that assigned opening the respective file with "notepad",
this effectively changes the icon to the icon of "notepad".
My friend didn't like this with music so I ended up
setting the program "Van Basco" as default progr.
whose icon looks more musical and was approved by my friend.
My friend satisfied, I also satisfied, problem solved.

Conclusion:
the procedure (right click and assign to program)
suggested by Aad and Chris indeed work.

Since I didn't want to go on adventures on my friend's PC
I have limited myself to this simple solution.
If it was my PC I would have made an image of "C" "Os" first
(with "Acronis True Image") and then tried more drastic things.

Thanks again to all for your valuable
contributions to this forum.
