Connecting external devices

Have you ever tried to connect a synth or drum machine in the mic/guitar input of sx900? I have connected a drum machine (drumbrute) and works perfectly, taking advantage of the internal effects that sx900 provides. Also I am thinking to plug in a volca beat in the aux in. I don't know if this is a proper way of connecting devices (avoiding mixer) or it may destroy the inputs.
