I got to the   age of 86  without being nagged by wife and kids about how I was  missing out on lots, and they were getting sick of having to repeat themselves. Well, I got some a couple of months ago, and they are wonderful.   BUT.  Some of my favourite styles  sound awful on my PSR 970. YET when I take my hearing aids out they still sound terrific IMO. I would like to know if any of our members have two sets of hearing aids. One set to use when visitors  drop in. And a second set to use to play my PSR 970

They probably sound awful because you are so used to hearing direct.

I wear hearing aids and you have to get used to them.

If something sounds awful to you, ask someone else what they think.
It takes time to get used to 'em.

John.
I have a Tyros5/76 & Tyros4 SE XL.
My keyboard holds every song ever written. I just have to find them.

Your hearing aids are amplifying the higher frequencies, which are usually the first to be lost.
You can adjust your keyboard to reduce the higher frequencies to make it sound better.
And, yes your hearing will also adjust after some continued use of the hearing aids.
I totally lost my hearing and now have bi-lateral cochlear Implants and I have found your brain will adapt over time and the sounds will become normal again.

Good luck and keep on playing your keyboard,
BillG
I wasn't going to do anything today - so far, I'm on schedule, :)

Anatomically, males lose the high frequency sounds, while females lose the lower frequency sounds - nature intended it that way so you could not hear your spouse nagging you about something they didn't agree with. ;)

I purchased the Bose Hearing aids, just $849 a pair, they are fully adjustable on your smart phone, and very comfortable to wear. Shortly after purchasing them I realized that I had been cranking up those high EQs way too high for years, yet the keyboard sounded perfectly fine to me.

If you want the hear the truth about how you sound, just ask your spouse - they will tell it like it is!

Good luck,

Some of the hearing aids shift the higher frequency sounds that you cannot hear to lower frequency sounds.

For me, that made almost all the music I listened to or played sound very strange.

With my hearing failing more rapidly every year*, I could not hear without aids and I could not enjoy music with or without aids.

* My wife properly observed that I was playing music ever louder (the room I used is double walled with several layers of sound insulation so as not to disturb others in that part of the house). She blamed much of my rapid loss of hearing on this excess volume as well as my age (80 this year).

Most modern hearing aids have different programs you can set them to.
With my widex hearing aids I switch to the MUSIC setting when I sit down at my Yamaha keyboard.
There is a noticeable difference in the sound that way to what I hear when I'm in my usual UNIVERSAL program.

Larry,
Which MODEL Widex hearing aids do you have?

Did you provider program them specifically for music?

Thanks.

Genos, ProTools, Cubase AI10, Win10,  BIAB-2022, Sibelius Ultimate, MixMaster, PRSUTI, StyleMagic, StyleWorks, and Baldwin SF-10 acoustic piano.

My hearing aids guy deals almost exclusively with Widex hearing aids and only uses the BTE, behind the ear, types.
That's what I use.
They work for me even though I still struggle using phones.

I use a remote to switch into the MUSIC program when I am about to play my DGX-650 or process songs I've recorded.

PS Widex ain't cheap.  Be warned.

I'm in the first days of a two week trial of hearing aids and notice that singing and playing keyboard or acoustic piano is "the pits".

I posted a question on the forum HEARINGTRACKER.COM and a knowledgeable user pointed to two web-sites intended to "assist" providers in programming hearing aids for musicians.

They are:
https://grandpianopassion.com/category/hearing-music/
and
https://musicandhearingaids.org/

Too early to tell if the provider can make sense of the information but it LOOKS like it should be very instructive.
