If you haven't read the recent Posting Guidelines, which was updated yesterday, November 22, 2019, by Joe Waters, please be aware of the language, which Joe added, as follows:

Sharing Material

Beginning January 1, 2020, members who wish to share material such as midi files, music sheets, style files, etc. with other members should upload that material to their personal online storage account and then share the link to this material in a forum topic or reply.  Members have been sharing MP3s with this method for several years.  Members should not upload files, in topics or replies, as attachments, which would be stored on the forum server.  Exception to this rule would be photos or text files, which are beneficial for visual instruction.

There are many online storage services available, some of which are free.  A few examples of online storage services are as follows: Microsoft OneDrive, Box.com, Google Drive, etc.

While the date for this new procedure doesn't begin until January 1, 2020, it would be wise to start uploading files in this manner now, which should help everyone with the transition when this requirement begins.

Because we can't track every piece of shared material, such as music sheets, style files, registration files, etc., to verify it's copyright, we've decided not to allow this content to be stored on the forum server.

Yes, we do have more storage space on the newer server; however, whereas members, who are also PSR Performers, once were limited to a maximum of 60 songs stored on their Performer's Page, will now find that all of the songs submitted are stored on their page.

Hi, Roger. For our info: will the data, which are now on the server be kept? Such as the charter files, music sheet library etc...
My best regards,
Ton

Roger Brenizer

The data will most likely be preserved; however, files uploaded to the forum server beginning January 1, 2020, will be removed.  Exception to this rule would be photos or text files, which are beneficial for visual instruction.

The Music sheets, songbooks and fakebooks are already stored on members private storage internet sites and not on the PSR Tutorial server.

If we have songs in the Performer section, will we have to upload them to sites, like box.com and make links?  Or are you leaving the Performers section alone..  If we want to add new songs to performer section. what is the procedure?   Thanx   Mark Styles

Topic Title Edited by Roger Brenizer (Removed the words Performer Section)

Roger Brenizer

You referenced the Performer section, so I assume you're referring to this board, "Songs Played by Forum Members" and not the Performers section on the main website, Mark.  If that's correct, then the answer is yes, you will need to upload your songs to Microsoft OneDrive, Box.com, Google Drive, etc.

If you're referencing the Performers section on the main website, as I'm sure you already know, your songs will still need to be sent to Joe Waters to be added to your Performer's Page.  Nothing has changed in this regard.  :)

Mr. Kent:

Question: When I post a new song, the little icon "NEW" does not appear next to the song. Please tell me how to do that or what I am doing incorrectly on the posting. I am trying to wade through the directions and must admit that I am not very computer literate. But, I am learning! Thank you so much for you help.

SciNote

I could be wrong, but I think that the "NEW" icon is automatically shown next to any topics/threads that you haven't entered since you last logged on.  Since the song you posted is, by definition, part of a topic that you entered (since you posted it), then you won't see it for your own posts.  But other people who log on afterward and have not yet entered the thread you created it will see the "NEW" icon.

I'm  hoping that I have got the sequence of posting my song correct.
!. On BOX the shared link has been created.
2. Now I think I will hit COPY
3.Now I think I will go to PSR Tutorial Forum where it says "Songs Played by Members"
4. Now I think I write in the name of my song and a bit about the song
5 Now I think I hit POST.
Please let me know if I have missed a step.
Thanks, Yammyfan.

Don't forget to "Paste" the link address into your topic, below any description you provide about your song.  Without the link address our members won't have access to your song.  :)

Thank you Roger,

I was always wondering what MICROSOFT ONE DRIVE was, it tries to install itself on my computer all the time and I always say no!

Let me add a little perspective on songs and storage.  Messages in the forum are text and they take very little space.  Songs, in the form of MP3s, are much larger and they take a lot of space, not only on the forum, but also on the main PSR Tutorial web site.  Over the years, the main web site has hosted MP3 files from the PSR Performers and for our Christmas concerts.  Since 2002, over 8,300 songs have appeared on the PSR Tutorial.  If they were all online, that would be over 41 GB or disk space.  But, over time, older songs have been retired. Still, today, there are 4,500 songs available online taking up 23 GB or storage and more are being added all the time.  (Note that in the various song collections available, many of the earlier songs are still available.)

If you want any of the available online MP3 songs, they are available. Just click on the link and the song is downloaded.

We have also allowed forum members to upload songs to the PSR Tutorial forum.  However, to conserve server space, we have requested members to upload their songs to server space that they control and then simply provide a link to the song.  We can not expect members to keep their songs up on the internet forever.  If a song on some outside server is removed, the link in the forum message would no longer work.  So, messages that include links to songs hosted elsewhere are removed if 30 days go by and no additional replies are added to the original posting.  With this policy, we minimize the problem of bad links in forum messages because the external MP3 is no longer available.

Performers who have pages among the PSR Performers can always add more songs by simply sending them to me.  They remain online for a long time.

Very clear and wise, Joe.

We are lucky to have a Forum Administrator as you are.

I will modify your profile for you and add a link to your Performer's page, Marie.  When you see that I've added the link, you can then check your profile to see how this was accomplished.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  :)

I just completed the modification to your profile, Marie, so you'll now see the following changes I've made to your forum profile on all of your posts:

1) PSR Performer now appears under your Username (marie25) in the upper left hand corner of your forum profile
2) I added a signature line, which appears under the Like button of your forum profile, so you no longer need to sign your posts, as follows:

Marie Alicata
(marie25)

3) I added the link to your Performer's page, directly under your signature line, as follows:

Marie's PSR Performer Page

The changes I've made are retroactive on all of your posts.

Hopefully you will like this new look; however, if you require additional modifications, please let me know, Marie.  :)
