Greetings!

A horrible thing happened last week.  After playing my Genos

for hours I turned it and my amp off as usual. I covered it

and went to use my computer which sits close by. I hear this

commotion going on and in the corner of my eye I see my Genos

standing on end like the Titanic! My cat was just jumping off

my Genos onto a folding table next to it. The sudden shift in

weight caused the left side of the Genos to lift up and

suddenly fall.....the only thing keeping it from falling hard

were the audio cable connectors keeping it from touching the

floor.

Both audio connectors were bent and broken where they attach

to the back of the Genos. I carefully removed the connectors,

installed some new ones, and turned Genos back on.

Nothing!!!!!!  I almost cried contemplating and thinking the

worst. This is gonna cost.....................

I finally had some time today and put Genos on my operating

table.  My old eyes needed a magnifying glass and bright

light, but I saw what I had hoped. Inside the jacks were 2

small pieces of the connectors. It took some skill and effort

but I got them out.

That's when I cried! My Genos is fixed!!!  I've been playing

it quite a while. It sounds better than ever!!

PS   My 25 pound cat doesn't know it but she is on a diet!!!!

I'm glad you were able to fix your Genos, Charley! Perhaps consider using a more robust keyboard stand. For the benefit of all, what keyboard stand was used when your putty cat decided to go exploring over the keys? Hope the cat was okay. I love cats. Always had one as a kid and adult. They can be funny creatures though ;D!

Edit
Wow, 25 pounds? That's a big cat!

Charley
I have a solution for this problem

I have two cats  ..... I always cover my key board when not in use over the cover I spread TIN FOIL on it  cats are scared of tin foil .... once in a while I take the tin foil after them ... they are petrified of the tin foil noise , I know I am cruel and I hope no one reports me for this ,,,other then that I treat my cats like Gold and love them dearly ...if you decide to do this make sure no one sees you they will think your crazy running  around the house chasing the cat with tin foil  ,,,, sorry to hear about your Key board and I hope all works out for you

Paula, about the tin foil and your cats. Funny thing is, if you roll the tin foil into a ball, they love to chase it! Crazy animals, right! Gotta love 'em.

Thanks for the replies.

I am using the Yamaha L-7S stand I've had since Tyros 5. It's a pretty sturdy stand.  My investigation suggests Fat Cat snagged the audio cables pulling (sliding) Genos off its stand.  I still have visions of my Genos's underbelly looking like a sinking ship plunging into the sea. I always thought the Genos undercarriage looked like a ships hull!! Perhaps Kitty was getting even for jumping up onto a hot glass topped stove last month?  She still thinks she only weighs 10 lbs and prances around so.................. -charley

My biggest worry is if the cat sits on the screen and cracks it. Even though I keep it covered in a thick transparent plastic cover, I place a hard backed notebook over the screen... just in case!

travlin-easy

Charlie, my cat has walked on just about everything in the house that has keys, computers, keyboard, etc. Fortunately, my stand is a heavy duty X stand that does not allow the cats weight to tip the board as it sits within a few inches of each end of the arranger keyboard. However, when I see the cat headed toward the keyboard, I squirt her with a squirt bottle of water, and she heads for the hills. Cats really don't like being squirted - and it's a great training tool. Works for me!

Good luck, Charlie,

hi toril
The worst thing for Keyboards other than cats is lubricating your keyboard with a gin and tonic!!! :)
For me a whisky mac or lager

All the best

No such thing as bugs, John. That's the sad state of affairs with today's developers. Their moto, "Push it out the door while its barely 60% ready. 'Those aren't customers. They're beta testers who pay us for the privilege of testing our software'."

Hi Lee  ---" It makes you wanna cry " :'(

I paid for my upgrade and It gets stuck on intialising things like video player, VST mixer,  No lcence sometimes.
I created a mini rumpus on the forum about the way were treated.
I now have the attention of one of their devlopers who wants me to help .
I said i have paid for this update and now you want to use me as a guinea pig beta tester . All i want is to get on with my music.
No mention we will pay you back the upgrade fee for helping.
It is a sham and their Tech support is non existant and to think that Yamaha are in with them is worrying.
Thankfully Cubase 11 works great still with the Genos.
You are right that everything these days is going down hill including cheap printed buttons wearing out on the Genos.
I hate to think who is designing aeroplanes today!!
Hope you are Fit and healthy Lee that is the main thing and hope a third world war can be avoided.
Everything is dark Skies at the moment it seems.
Well, we have got to keep our peckers up!! :)

All the best
John :)

We're a little off topic John, but I must agree that the entire world has become so narcissistic. This "me, me, me" attitude has stripped the quality control from so many things. Profit has become God, whereas, quality and future sales used to be given first priority, which in turn, guaranteed a decent profit line.

As for that Russian butcher, who knows where that will end up? It appears to be going well for him but it's not. Let's hope he backs down. End of political rant.

I'm still waiting to see a picture of Charlie's 25 pound cat ;D!
