I have been beta testing a new version...  StyleMagic v3.5.0.  A very good program for editing styles has become a GREAT program for editing styles and creating new styles!

More info will be forth coming once Thomas officially releases the program.  I will provide details on the new features and a pdf if he includes one with the new release.  He indicated to me that sales have slumped during the pandemic, so I hope there will people here that support his new update and buy the program if you have not done so already.  There will be the usual demo for download to try out, but offers no SAVE of your edits.

This new version gets my 5 smiles rating!

I'm still waiting on Thomas' response to a problem I reported and asked for 1 additional feature to be added to correct the problem.  I don't want to comment yet on the several new features but the update is coming soon!

He has put a lot of work into this latest update.

I haven't heard anything yet from Thomas, so that may mean he is working to fix the problem I reported.  When he sent me the beta version to test he included a pdf explaining the new features with screen shots.  When he is done, I will ask him if it is OK to post the pdf here.  That will save me a lot of explaining what's new in the program.

Jeff,

StyleMagic runs on PCs only and requires that you insert a USB drive at the time of purchase that will become the dongle for the program to run. There is no version for the Mac.

I started a thread in September of last year.  I sent info on EMC Style Factory to Thomas so he could see what I was interested in him adding to StyleMagic.

My request was to Export and Import style Parts like he offers in Section Manager (Export and Import complete style Sections).  He said he would add the feature.

So... StyleMagic v3.5.0 offers the capability of Exporting and Importing individual Parts of a style.  There a new screen called Sty Console that adds many other features as well.

The problem I ran into when creating a new style was that some style Parts have 2 bars, some have 4 bars and some have 8 or more bars.  I asked Thomas to look at this problem and see if there was a way to add Select a Section and Select the number of bars for that Section.  I'm sure writing the code for that is complicated.  It would require looking at all Parts of a Section and copying/adding or deleting bars so they all contained the same number of bars.  This can be done in Style Creator on our keyboards, so it is possible to do.  I can only assume Thomas is looking at the issue since he has not officially released v3.5.0 yet.  He is a very good programmer. We will just have to wait and see.

Nice to hear about the incoming version of SMYA.
I was working too on style sections in last couple of months and I think Thomas can do this job easily.
I think he must take care of the new style engine (with 128 bars) and also the compatibility of A5000 series style engine, because we now that is the only keyboard that supports styles with sections having individual time signatures for each variation I think the last thing is a little bit problematic, but we will see.

Thomas also made mention that he saw a small problem with idleditorv2.  It seems to work OK for me.  I told him I had no problem adding 5 expansion pack Voice lists to StyleMagic. They display correctly as Panel Voices just the EDP Voices.  Your utility in YEM-CE works very good.

In december I also had contact with Thomasz about a little bug in Stylemagic concerning SFF1 styles.
I'm looking forward to the new release of StyleMagic.

I think there IS a better way with being able to Export and Import Parts saved to disk.  It is similar to how Style Creator Assembly works on our keyboards.  The biggest amount of work is building a database of style Parts which we will have to Export from existing styles.  It may be possible for StyleMagic Users to share their saved style Parts to create a variety of Drum, Bass, Chord, Pad, and Phrase Parts.  I will share more on that later once Thomas gives approval to share what he has done with v3.5.0.

Import a saved Part... listen, if you don't like... drag it to the trashcan and Import a different part.  Once you get the hang of it; it will go fast.  No... the Piano roll is still the same.  It takes some time getting used to but it is a very powerful tool in StyleMagic. There is a lot more there than meets the eye, we can perform MAJOR editing of notes, note gate time, note velocity, copy and paste of notes, quantize, etc.

Functions in the new Sty Console (in a nut shell)

We have a choice of displaying the regular Mixing Console or the Sty Console as the default Console on boot up.  We can navigate between screens using the F keys. New features include Export and Import of style Parts, selecting the Reverb and Chorus DSP Type and Insert Effect Types. SInt Optimisation is described the document.

The Sty Console displays only 8 style Parts as seen on the keyboard, but also shows if Parts use alternate channels by displaying a number in the Part block.

1.   All edits made in Sty Console to a style Part are applied to alternate channels too

2.   Deleting a part in Sty Console with alternate channels deletes the alternate channels too

3.   In the Sty Console you can restore a deleted Part by double clicking the trashcan

4.   Export / Import of style Part with alternate channels, alternate channels are also Exported and Imported.

5.   You can create a new style by Importing several Parts. I started with a Template I made with just drums and Bass Parts; then Imported other Parts.  I have begun creating a database of style Parts. I have organized my folders first with the type of style... Dance, Ballad, Ambient, etc. Then inside each of these folders I follow the Parts seen on the keyboard creating folders for Drums, Bass, Chord, Pad and Phrase, and I added Arppegio. So far I have saved a couple hundred Parts and expect to build in time a database of several thousand Parts or phrases.

6.   DSP Type select is now supported. Click the DSP button to open a dialog. We can assign Reverb, Chorus Types and assign Variation effect Type as global or assign it as an Insert Effect.  There is support for Tyros 5 and Genos Insert Effects

7.   Selecting Maj / min / 7, plays the correct main channel and alt channel(s) playing Maj / min / 7.

The specific problem I had when I created a new style was that one of the Imported Parts had only 2 bars while other Parts had 4 bars.  The result was that the 2-bar Voice played then was silent for 2 bars... then played again as it looped.  When I set the Pattern Length on the keyboard to 2 bars; the Section played correctly.  It is possible to see in the Multieditor (Piano Roll) the maximum length for all parts by scrolling through the channels.  If necessary, we can copy a 2-bar Part and make it a 4-bar Part to match the other 4-bar Parts, or cutting 2 bars correctly to shorten the Part from 4 bars to 2 bars, or 8 bars to 4 bars.  Once you get the hang of it is pretty easy to do.

Thomas did not address this issue in the current version but maybe he will add support for Pattern Length in a future update.

I forgot to explain that the SInt Optimisation works like Style Creator in the sense that you can select what parameters will apply to which style Parts. Selecting all will make Volume, Pan, DSP settings, Filter, etc apply to all Sections.  If you want to change Voices or Volume settings per Section then just select the option available in the dialog.  To open the SInt Optimisation dialog click the (2 check marks) All Tab next to the Select Section field.

I think v3.5.0 is much closer to Style Creator now.  The program was originally designed to create styles from MIDI song files, but now has a better option to create styles from style Parts much like Style Creator Assembly but on the computer and offers more and better editing capabilities.

I downloaded the file 'demo-setup-stylemagicya.exe' date 2022-01-27 09:32 but after install it still shows version 3.0.2.

So there must be a problem somewhere. Perhaps on my PC.
Is it because I cannot remove (uninstall) older demo version that I tried the last hours/days ?
I simply remove the demo folder (uninstall doesn't work) ?

Is it because I still have a licensed version installed ?
I don't think because the demo version is in another folder.

Looking at the properties of the downloaded file it shows 'Version 3.0.2'

I installed the demo version also but have no problems. You are right the demo is installed in another directory. After uninstall it the icon on the desktop disappears but the program is stil in his original directory - you need to make an icon on your desktop. The demo directory stays with only the exe file - that's not difficult to remove.

I started again :
I deleted the whole StyleMagic Demo folder on my PC.
I downloaded the file from the 'www.midisoft.pl/en' site.
I also downloaded the file that Chris was linking to.

Both files are appr 5,6 Mb (same for both)
Already when looking into the properties of both the files -> details : it shows 'Version 3.0.2.

For me the files I download are not the 3.5.0 versions.

Pieter or Chris : could you perhaps send me the file you downloaded to see if that works for me.

After deleteing all 'Cookies' from my browser, the downloads where correct.

I am now back on my PC and have just successfully downloaded and installed the StyleMagicYA demo version 3.5.0. I installed this demo over the previous version 3.0.2, but in the Windows settings in "Apps and Features" I could have easily uninstalled the old version.

I found you can only have 1 copy of StyleMagic installed at a time.  When I first installed and tested v3.5.0, I had to uninstall v3.0.2.

I had a bootable copy of v3.0.0 on my dongle 'S'.  I wanted to compare the new version with an older version.  The v3.0.0 was NOT installed but ran as a portable file from the dongle, but it interfered with v3.5.0 (which used dongle 'M'... a back up dongle) even though I was NOT running the 2 versions at the same time.  It messed up selection of pack Voices on v3.5.0.  It was very confusing.  I reported the problem to Thomas and he responded with a comment something to the effect of... "it's a problem at your end with your computer not the demo program".  When I removed the v3.0.0 from my dongle and removed dongle 'S', I rebooted my computer the problem was gone.

Adding END_SEC marker in Multi Editor on the beginning of third bar and using "Remove END_SEC" from Tools, will remove those two empty bars, leaving that part as a two bars part.

In next example, my Main C has 8 bars. I added a marker to 3rd bar, changed it to END_SEC and after closing all screens, I used Menu -> Tools -> Remove END_SEC option, which deleted automatically all midi events from bar 3 to the end of Main C.

Thanks for the tip.   I find though copying 2 bars to make 4 bars is pretty easy.  And cutting 4 bars from a 8 bar Part to make 4 bars is equally easy.

Maybe your way is better.   I'll give it a try.

Your methods really works great to reduce a complete Section from 8 bars to 4 bars. That's much easier than cutting 4 bars from each Part one at a time.

Thanks again for the tip!  Maybe Thomas knew we would figure it out.  As I stated above the Multieditor is a very powerful tool.  It just takes awhile using it to learn all we can do with it.

This is a very easy way to "build" variations, fills and endings, when you have a midi file which you want to create a style from it.
Import midi, add markers in multi-editor, and to end bars for variations, fills and so on, you will have to add that END_SEC marker. So, you'll have something like thins:
Main A .... END_SEC (bars, bars, bars,...) Main B .... END_SEC ... (bars, bars,,,,) ... Main C ... END_SEC ... etc. ...
Execute "Remove END_SEC" from menu, and you will have a style in some minutes from that midi file

The work begins now, creating CASM for each main/fill/etc, supposing you used this midi file in a DAW like Cubase to transpose needed bars in it to C chord.

A variation is read between two valid Yamaha style markers, or between a valid Yamaha style marker and an END_SEC marker.
When you create a style from  a midi, adding valid markers could be inserted in a random way, it could be Main A, Fill In CC, Main C, etc....
