Hello,

A new test version of MixMaster is available at :
https://psrtutorial.com/MB/EV_Files/template.html

It is not a .msi install file but a zip file containing all the necessary files to run MixMaster.
Unzip and store the files somewhere on your PC.
Then start 'MixMaster v22r1 build 220113.exe' from that place.

Read the release notes and the picture in attachment to this topic.

Please feedback any Remarks and/or found bugs.

Thanks
Regards
Etienne

How MixMaster handles data, ini files, temp files, ...

Start Mixmaster - goto Menu Help - choose MMFolder Info
You will see the most important folders that MixMaster uses for handling all data.

  • Install Folder
  • Data Folder
  • User Instrument Folder (subfolder of DataFolder)

Install Folder :
This is the folder where MixMaster will be installed when installing from a .msi file.
Installing this way removes all the files in this folder, and they will be overwritten with the new files from the new version.
This also includes all the Instrumentfiles that are located in the DefaultInstrumentFiles that is a subfolder of the install folder.

Data Folder :
This is where MixMaster keeps track of all data files needed for running.
Think about the .ini file with all settings, or the MMaster.mid(.sty) file that will be transfered when using the GoTo menu or the usersy***.dat file or ...
These files will NOT be overwritten when a new version is installed via the .msi file.
This Data Folder has a subfolder called : UserInstrumentFiles.

User Instrument Folder (UserInstrumentFiles = subfolder of the Data Folder) :
This is the folder where MixMaster stores the Instrumentfiles that the user has choosen to use in MixMaster (via Menu -Options - Open Instrument Manager).
These file will NOT be overwritten when a new MixMaster version will be installed from a .msi file.
BUT TAKE CARE :
If for example you select a Instrument from the default list and store it in the User List.
For some reason you make changes to that Instrument File and you do not change the name in the user list when saving.
No problem , BUT if later you place the same instrument from the default list to the user list, it will be overwritten by the default, that does not include the changes you made.
TIP : If you make changes to the User File please be sure to rename the Instrument in the User List to another name.
Instead of 'Genos' call it for example 'MyGenos'.

The build versions that are downloaded as a zip file (MixMaster v22r1 build 220113) includes all the necessary files for running MixMaster from within the folder you put these files in when unzipping.
I use this method for test versions that are not yet completed.
This way it is possible to test the uncompleted version without removing the normal installed version of MixMaster.
When running MixMaster this way it will use exactly the same folders as the normal installed version, except the install folder which will be the folder you put the files in.
In other words both versions will use the same .ini file to store the option settings.
This can be misleading, because all your ini settings (option settings) are reset to default when alternating between the two versions.

I have provided a solution for this small problem in the next version of MixMaster.
i.e. the original version and the test version will use a seperated .ini file in the future.

Hope this brings some clarity on how MixMaster handles folders / files

If there are still questions, please contact me via e-mail.

TIP : Neverless it is ALWAYS good to have a backup.
This does not only count for MixMaster but for everything important on your PC.

Regards
Etienne
