The second bar has 8 eighth notes. But when I listen to the Billy Vaughn version (here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWPIXrUUq0I), I hear two quarter notes followed by 4 eighth notes.

I've played it both ways, and can't decide which I like better, so I'm curious how others play it.

Also, if anyone has lyrics, it would be great if they were shared. All I can remember is the last line "listen to the music of the wheels".

Microsoft OneDrive has options to share with one or more persons.  I always share my files with anyone who may want them, so I'm not certain what you saw when you downloaded the ZIP file, Fred.  You'll notice that others have downloaded the file also.

Many years since I played this song and had never seen any music for it, but I always thought of those extra notes as 'optional octave counter notes' that are just thrown in by instrumentalists as ornament. In the Billy Vaughn version you linked, I hear slightly different but similar ornament thrown in. To be honest I don't think it makes much difference, but like all instrumental playing a bit of ornament usually make things sound more polished as long as not overdone. I would play it. Apart from anything else I think people familiar with the recordings expect it.
