Hi all.
I have lots of music sheets in PDF form.
I'm thinking about getting a tablet and transferring them on to it.
Can anyone recommend a suitable one and how I do this.
Many thanks
John.

I would recommend an iPad Pro 12.9" with the Forscore app.
This is the combination that I use and with the large screen size you can have the music in portrait (1 page at a time) or landscape (2 pages at a time).
If you link the iPad with a bluetooth page turner you can use a foot pedal to turn the pages therefore freeing up your hands for the important bit of playing the keyboard!
Hope that helps.

I have an iPad Pro 12.9 inches.    In conjunction with SongBook+ software.  I also use a bluetooth device to wirelessly link all the PDF's to corresponding Genos registration(s).  That allows the software to automatically bring up the Genos registration with selecting the corresponding PDF.

Hope this helps.

If you have the latest iPad Pro and subscribe to ForScore Pro (£9.99 pa), you can get ForScore to automatically turn pages on the iPad using face gestures.

I have an iPad 11" which I use in portrait mode.

For a standard page, you need decent eyesight to see the notes. I create my own sheet music, so I can scale it to the size I need.

I use Songbook+, and control it with midi files, so I can have my resignations automatically turn the page.

There are a number of different solutions and, as with the keyboards themselves, much will depend upon personal preferences.  So, here is an alternative which I use.  I have a Fusion 5 android tablet (about 9") connected to a 24inch monitor which sits above my GENOS.  I think the tablet and monitor together were far cheaper than a new I pad.  If you buy an android tablet ensure it has an HDMI out port since this will be needed for the monitor connection.  The other android tablet port (a mini USB used for charging and data transfer) connects direct to my GENOS.

As regards the software, I use MobileSheets Pro.  It safely handles my collection of about 1,500 pdfs.  The android can connect (via Blutooth) to a Mobile Sheets Pro companion on a PC which makes sorting out the pdf collection far easier - there are eventually always duplicates which need a bit of a spring clean.  I particularly like MobileSheets Pro since it connects direct to my GENOS.  Call up a song on the android and it immediately brings up the associated registrations (which incidentally are easily saved in MobileSheets without the need for MIDI codes).  Alternatively call up a song from the GENOS playlist and up pops the sheet music from the Android with of course the saved registration).

I have tried this successfully on a Yamaha CVP so it likely works on other Yamaha keyboards with a similar architecture (the DGX ?).

To complete the package I have a Blutooth page turner which connects to the Android tablet.  Just to declare my hand, I have tried ForeScore and Songbook + (trial editions) but I did not find them quite so easy to use.  I have no connection whatsoever with MobileSheets other than being a satisfied customer.

A photo is attached.

Hope this is of help. Good luck !
David

I was intrigued by the idea of turning pages using face gestures so I followed the link for more information. It says, "If your device supports face tracking, you can use facial gestures to turn pages—either by turning your head or by moving your lips to the left or right. Choose whichever mode works best for you."

I'm none the wiser.

Well I've got the latest iPad Pro (12.9") and that supports facial recognition (or face tracking) so the face gestures do work. The previous iPad Pro also supports facial recognition and they work with that one too. I've tested this with my wife's 12.9" iPad Pro. For the record, these iPads are known as iPad Pro 2021 and iPad Pro 2020 respectively.

You'll know if your iOS device has facial recognition if you use your face to unlock it.

To see face gestures in action, have a look at this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Acgt6Q6bCY

By the way, the guy in the video says ForScore Pro was a one-off purchase. However, since November 2020, it's now an annual fee of £9.99 ($9.99). Very well worth the money in my view.

Absolutely fascinating. Thank you for the link. I use Forescore on the big iPad with page turning (forward and backwards) using Airturn pedals connected to the iPad using Bluetooth. It's been a game-changer for me. I store all my pdf sheet music and music books on Microsoft OneDrive, so its all literally at my fingertips, ready to be called up for viewing on Forescore. I can see that using head and face gestures to achieve the same results would be invaluable for an organist - his feet are busy making music.

Or an Eink tablet. e.g. Onyx Boox Max3, Onyx Boox Lumi. With the special made software from Einks from MobilsheetsPro.
Better readable. Better for your eyes.  Can read all extensions. Pdf, Pub, Word, Amazon. So you can read your manuals and other books too. And cheaper than an Ipad.
rgds.

Hello Tyrosguy85,

The thing is, you can have a lot of tablet alternatives for your needs, you could use an old iPad, or a mini Ipad, or an ipad Pro, or other Androide tables, the same goes with the software you can use to be able to show/manage pdf sheets on each tablet. So it depends on the amount of money you will be willing/able to spend for buying the tablet and for other things you will be willing to get approach from those tablets. An iPad pro is an expensive piece of hardware just for seeing pdf sheets, but if you are willing to take more advantage/approach of it and install other apps and utilities, not only for music purposes, and you can spend that money, great. Many of the things and apps that can be installed on iPad pro, can run on the new iPad air, and a few apple apps on older iPads, taking the same approach of them. Also you can find several yamaha apps in the Apple App store, that can be installed on ipads and iphones. Most of these tablets can be connected to the keyboard with cable or wireless connection,  and take advantage of other things from them. But as I told at the beginning, it depends on your budget and interest of getting aproach of new technology. On the other hand, when buying technology, is always best to try to get the latest in order to have more years of lifetime.

Bernardo.

You say that, "An iPad pro is an expensive piece of hardware just for seeing pdf sheets". But surely, "seeing pdf sheets" is a lot of what we do. So, the simpler, more controllable, more enjoyable the means we choose for "seeing pdf sheets", the more we enjoy the whole.

Alan,

That is why i'm saying, if you can afford it an have the money to buy an iPad pro for managin pdf musical sheets,  wonderful, do it, buy it and enjoy it, but if not, there are many good and practical alternatives. Believe me, I can tell you this as a System engineer with more than 30 years of professional practice, and also with music software knowledge, but your thoughts and everyone's are welcome and respected.

Best regards.

Frozzer,
I watched the video, I couldn't stop laughing!  I was imagining me (I am a singer keyboard player) singing in front of this thing and the pages going nuts!

If you still not have decided for which platform you go. Android or Ipad. Consider this. Soon there will be an E-ink device from Lenovo.  And a little later the TCL nXTPaper Pro with a 12 inch screen.  https://www.tcl.com/global/en/tablets/tcl-nxtpaper-12-pro
Both of these divices cost a lot fewer than the Ipads and Onyx Boox.  The TCL will be around 499 dollar.
And MSPro is about 20 dollar plus free updates.
