I've searched a lot for a MIDNAM or MIDI Patch Name file in order to fully use my PSR-740 in various DAWs, e.g. Logic Pro X and Pro Tools. It's possible to use a GM (General MIDI) setting but that doesn't address the full range of sounds and styles available. There may be a midnam that someone has made, or you may have knowledge of editing an existing midnam file and adapting to be bespoke for a particular keyboard while referring to a manual. I understand the midnam file is made with XML syntax. So I'm willing to have a go if someone can give me a leg up to get going. Cheers.

If I understand you correctly,
I think you want the instrument definition file.
So from your DAW you can assign the patch number/name which resides in your PSR.

For example, I've downloaded (from this Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login) "PSR640v200.ins" file.

Then I put this file in my Cakewalk folder.

Then in Cakewalk, I put the output midi device to USB-midi,
then I open the "Instrument" definition option,
then I import that PSR640v200.ins file.

The Yamaha PSR640 then will show in the list of the available instrument.
Then I assign all USB midi channels output to YAMAHA PSR640 :

.

Next in Cakewalk's track properties ---> Browse Patch :
I can choose any sound which resides in my PSR640.

.

This if I'm not mistaken to get what you mean.

Thank you.
