Display Out on the SX700 ???

Hi All,

The current specs for the SX700 show that the "Display Out" function should be available.  (I attached a snapshot of the spec.)

But I suspect this may not be true as the Display Out control isn't appearing in the Utility menu, and the wording in the reference manual isn't 100% clear.  I am thinking that either the SX700 doesn't really support Display Out, or potentially the menu item doesn't become available until you have a compatible adapter attached. (Fyi: I have current firmware 1.04)

Is there anyone out there using "Display Out" with an SX700?

Thanks,

FJ

Hi FJ,

unfortunately, the SX700 does NOT offer a connection option for an external display via a USB display adapter.

Which website did your screenshot come from? On the Yamaha SX700 product page, the display out is only mentioned for the SX900:
>>> https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/psr-sx700/specs.html#product-tabs

The same applies to the Owner's Manual (page 109) and the specifications in it (page 119). See also the attached picture.

Best regards,
Chris

● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Thanks Chris,

That is a bummer.   The specs were directly off of the US Yamaha site (link below).  I love my 700, but I kinda wish I gave the 900 a more serious looking over. The published differences versus the cost difference made the SX700 a easy choice, at least at first.

Hi FJ,

this is obviously a big mistake on the US Yamaha site. I have visited many other Yamaha sites around the world: On all of these pages, the display connection option is only listed for the SX900, e.g. here:

>>> https://asia-latinamerica-mea.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/psr-sx700/specs.html#product-tabs
>>> https://de.yamaha.com/de/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/psr-sx900/specs.html#product-tabs
>>> https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/psr-sx600/specs.html#product-tabs
>>> https://ru.yamaha.com/ru/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/psr-sx900/specs.html#product-tabs

P.S.
One of the reasons why the SX700 does not have an external display connection option could be that the SX700 only has ONE USB-to-device port. (A so-called "high side switch" IC is missing internally).

Best regards,
Chris

Yes it would seem the US Yamaha site is at fault.   I even found a "how-to" on the web that indicated it was possible on the SX700. This is what gave me false hope...

This "Hi Side" circuit you mentioned...  Is that why my micro USB hub doesn't seem to work?  I have a great micro 3-port USB hub that would fit nicely without adding bulk to the back of the SX. (see attached).  My (alas foiled) plans were to have two "Fit" Flash drives (one for content the other backup, etc.) and the display out connected at the same time.
