I'm trying to install Church and Christmas Expansion Pack on my PSR S950. Since S950 is no longer supported on the Yamaha site, I downloaded this pack for S970.

I'm following the installation instructions:
Installing Voice & Style Packs in the PSR-S750/ S950

1. Connect the USB flash memory device which contains the unzipped Expansion Pack file to the 'USB TO DEVICE' terminal of the instrument.

2. Press the [FUNCTION] button.

3. Press the [J] button for EXPANSION PACK INSTALLATION.

4. Press the TAB [> ] button to select the USB tab.

5. Use the [A] – [J] buttons to select the desired Expansion Pack file.

6. Press the [6] (INSTALL) button to install the data to the instrument.

     NOTE: Follow the on-display instructions.

7. Press the [F] (YES) button when the message indicating completion of the install appears.
NOTE: The instrument will be restarted automatically.

8. Press [EXPANSION/USER] button in the VOICE or STYLE category selection buttons to see if the Expansion Pack data has been installed successfully.

NOTE: Expansion Voices or Styles can be found in the Expansion folder of the USER tab display.

I copied the file to USB and did steps 1-4 but the file isn't visible in the USB directory. What am I doing wrong?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

You cannot install packs of the new generation instruments (like S670/S770/S970/SX700 etc) onto the S950 since the S950 uses the older yep format. That is why your keyboard does not see the expansion pack on the usb drive: only files with extension ".yep" are shown.

Thank you very much for the explanation, Johan! I suspected something like this.

But the strange thing they say to use an unzipped file. Can the keyboard recognize the format inside a zipped file? Would it see other zipped files in the directory if they are in older format?

The keyboard cannot read zip files: that's why they ask to use an unzipped file. Downloaded expansion packs often come as a zip file so you have to unzip them first on a computer.

Hi notebleue,

you can download the "Church & Chrismas" Pack for PSR-S750/950 (in .yep format) here:
>>> Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login

(You don't have to login or register on Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login. If you get a pop-up message in this regard, just close or ignore it.)

- Unzip the downloaded zip file on your computer. You will get a folder "PSR-S750 PSR-S950 Church&Christmas". OPEN this folder on the computer.

- You will find:
    - one folder containing Demo MIDI files,
    - one folder containing Registration files,
    - the Pack file (.yep)
    - and a Readme file (.txt).  Please first read that file.

- Copy the mentioned two folders and the .yep file to the ROOT of a USB stick, then connect the stick to the S950 and install the Pack.

- Note that on PSR-S750/950 you can only install ONE Pack at a time.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Thanks again, Chris! It all worked perfectly. The voices are so beautiful and crisp, just like in the demo. :)
