Which USB cable to connect iPad-to-PSR975?

Does a Lightning USB camera adapter come in powered vs unpowered versions?

I believe that I will need a Lightning USB camera adapter to connect my iPad to my PSR S975. Does it matetr if I get a powered or unpowered one?

I also have a Tascam DR-05X handheld recorder, which also requires a Lightning USB camera adapter. Would the same cable work on it? I've heard that some people have had a problem with getting their Mac or PC to recognize the handheld device with certain cables. They get a message that "this device requires too much power."

i recommend using the Apple "Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter". Here you can connect the power cable of the iPad and a USB type AB cable at the same time:




When using the old Apple "Lightning to USB Camera Adapter", you cannot connect the power cable:

Do you need 2 cables to connect to my Tyros 5, you mention the lightning cable if it is 2 cables, can
you describe how they connect together,  sorry just confused I thought you would need only 1 cable.

Hi PJ,

first connect the USB B plug of a "USB type AB" cable ("Printer cable") to the "USB-to-Host" socket of the Tyros5:




Then connect the USB A plug of that cable to the Apple "Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter":



Now connect the Lightning plug of that adapter to the iPad.

IF you want to charge the iPad at the same time, you can additionally connect the Power cable (Lightning to USB A) of the iPad to that Camera Adapter (while connecting the USB A plug of the Power cable to the iPad's Power adapter as usual):

The graphic "Connection A" in that manual shows what I described here (but without the possibility to connect the Power cable of the iPad at the same time when using the "USB3" Camera adapter mentioned above).

Hi. This is what I use, from Amazon; works well, but charging wire could be 6 feet instead of 3...

No need of camera adapter with this "Y" cable: lightning in the iPad, usb B in the keyboard, usb A in the charger, if needed.

If you use an unpowered cable, the iPad battery gets drained rather quickly!

Search for the brand, RVOKOMS, or lightning cable to usb B. It sells as a MIDI cable.

thank you for pointing out this cable! I didn't know it before.

The advantage of this combined cable is that you don't need three separate parts (camera adapter, USB AB cable, power cable).

A possible disadvantage is that this cable may not be compatible with all iOS devices with a Lightning connector, since Lightning cables contain a special chip and so there are occasional problems with such third-party cables.

In addition, you are limited to the respective cable lengths. (Unless you use additional extension cables.) In that case, however, I would again prefer the method I described with the original Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera adapter (and work with cables of a suitable length).

Thanks for your reply.

At first, I had doubts about that unit. I ordered it to try, with the option of easy returns with Amazon; didn't have to, it works fine so far.

I also have an Apple camera adapter with a « printer » usb AB cable, but I didn't like to see my iPad Pro battery level drop so fast just by using the Korg Module app or others similar. iPads are quick to tell you that what is connected to their lightning jack draws too much current!

The camera adapter with the extra power input that you recommend has big chances to be more reliable ( if it's a genuine Apple unit ) and polyvalent; my cable is apparently dedicated to MIDI, so if VilleGuy needs to connect his Tascam, maybe my cable wouldn't work...
