Genos search function not working properly - any solutions?

Hello friends!
The search function is not working properly when I search for styles:
I have a working USB plugged in, and it works fine when I manually call up files, but if I search for i. e. waltz, I get a lot of files, that is true, but before the 2.0 update I was able to activate them even if they exeded the limit. But now I get the message that file is not found or is inappropriate. Only some random files can be played. What happened?

In the update, they expanded the Genos mamory, maybe at the cost of the search function?

Any solutions?

It worked after I deleted the search and searched again. This happens all the time now. I suspect the keyboard struggles with my large collections!

I wonder, do you swap USBs or do you keep the same one plugged in?

if you're swapping then as you say it may struggle to keep the index in line with what's currently plugged in. I can't say I've had any similar problem with the same USB plugged in all the time.

The search limit of 100 is annoying though ... I wish there was a way to give a starting point for the search (e.g presets only, or from a certain USB folder only). Or remove the limit!!

Yhanks DerekA. Yes, I am swapping USBs from time to time. And there sre a lot of files on them!

I have always found it best to keep all my styles together by creating a folder Called styles and then creating Sub folders inside titled to the type of styles ie. Ballads, Country, Latin etc. All saved to User with a back up on just one USB stick. You can then find anything you want very quickly. What is the point of having lots of USB sticks cluttered up with all sorts. It takes a little time to do but then we have all had lots of that lately and it is well worth it. I never keep  rubbish styles unless they are worth working on to make them sound good. I have a 64Gb USB in the underneath section of Genos and anything I save to user is also saved here. This then acts as my Backup for the whole keyboard and is removed from time to time to also back up on my computer. Never need to use search doing it this way.

Thanks Eileen. I also do that. But I have several style collections that I got from PSR Tutorial, and I hunt for good styles. Then it is handy to search for style cathegories. But Genos almost always comes up with error messages.

Hi Toril,

To manage all styles on the PC, I recommend using the "PSR Style Database" program (V4.7) by Peter Wierzba. This allows you to view a large number of styles very quickly (several 100,000 are no problem). You can search / filter according to many different criteria and, if necessary, display up to 20 parameters (columns) at the same time.

I would not copy complete collections (thousands of styles) to the USB stick that is connected to the keyboard, but first use the above-mentioned program on the PC and then only copy a certain selection to the stick in order to assign these styles to the keyboard testing. Unused or "bad" styles should be deleted from the stick immediately after a test.

Best regards,
Chris

Thanks Chris :)
I suspected that my method is rather hard on the Genos!

Hi Toril,

please see these posts for additional information on "PSR Style/Midi Database":

P.S.
I have set the standard directory to C:\ in the settings of the program, and the option "Incl. Subfolders" is NOT set as standard. So, no Styles are displayed/found when the program is started.

Then click "Browse" button, navigate to the folder that contains the desired Styles, and, if also the subfolders should be included, tick that checkbox.

Note: When you do this for the FIRST time, it could take a relativly long time until the Styles are displayed (especially if there are a lot of styles in the corresponding folder). All subsequent search queries, however, go very quickly (often in fractions of a second).

Best regards,
Chris

Same here. But when I do find a style i like, I copy it and paste it in user, and then select it again from there.
Works every time.

Hi Toril

It does seem that the Genos has troubles with older stuff until a workaround has been found.
Happy New Year !!!
