YEM and Voice Wave Size (1004 Mb)

I started exploring my sx900 and among the first things downloaded the pre-installed expansion packs. I got familiar with YEM (very intuitive) and successfully sent the file to the keyboard via lan (everything went ok). I downloaded a series of CMS packages from the web in particular a whole series of Choirs (angel, Chatedral, Xmass, Soprano, Tenore, Diva ... etc) and I brought them together in a single package ... But I realized that despite 4 Gb of space, the Voice Waves have a limitation of 1004 Mb. This limits the number of packs to be installed despite having still 2 Gb total available. Is there a reason for this limitation? Can it be overcome? Can a future Firmware update increase this limit beyond 1004 Mb? I thank you for your time for me ...

hello,

Specifications can be misleading at quick view... Yes, SX900 has 4GB user memory, but only gives 1GB as expansion memory. That is, no matter what's in a pack, it can be max 1GB. Of course, most of that usually make voices, so one needs to choose carefully which of them are essential to have installed.

Hi BogdanH,

So the voices go to occupy the user memory ... which for the sx900 is 1 GB ...
Ok no firmware ...  ;D

The expansion pack data splits into 2 parts when installed ....

The sample waveforms themselves (big) go into the expansion memory. This is listed in the specification table in the manual as "Expansion voice" - 1GB for SX900

The setup files (i.e. all the settings from the voice set pages) (small) and styles (smallish) go into the user memory. This is listed in the manual as "internal memory" - 4GB for SX900

Regarding firmware, Yamaha managed to find a way to open up an additional 1.2GB of space in the Genos for additional expansion waveforms, though nobody is really sure how they did it. You never know, perhaps they can do the same on SX ... unless it was during the design of the SX that they worked out the trick, and have already applied it there :)
