Hello friends. Please can someone tell me how to increase the mic level imput? I find no button to adjust it. Gain knob turned to full, still very low volume on the mic! Not at all satisfied. PSR S975.

Toril, not sure about the S-975, but on all other previous models there is a tiny, black knob right next to the mic input/line jack. Also, be sure that switch is set to mic - not line.

Good luck,

Hi Toril,

Mic volume was a BIG issue for me when I got my S975.

In the mic settings screens is a volume slider that made the biggest difference for me. At this time I can't direct you step-by-step because my keyboard is packed up.  Let me know if you can't find it, I'll capture some detail for you next time my gear is set up here at home.

Hi Toril,
On page 88-90 of your S975 owners manual you will find info about how to set up the microphone/guitar on your keyboard.
Gary is right - check the switch that it is set for microphones, and adjust the gain knob accordingly (see page 88).
And as Royce has indicated - you can adjust your mic settings in the Mic Setting area (see page 89 - 90).

Also, on page 57, in the Balance area, you can adjust your mic up compared to the accompaniment and the right/left voices, etc.

Also, I would assume that you have already done this, but in case you haven't you can easily download the owners manual as a PDF file.
Then you can enlarge it on your computer screen so you can read it easier...

Always have fun! :)

Hi Toril,

please dont forget to use the Compressor for the Microphon.
Only with the Compressor you get the right Power.

I vaguely remember a thread from a while back :) ..........

Toril, Is the mic the Shure WH20XLR that works OK with your Tyros?
https://www.psrtutorial.com/forum/index.php/topic,50174.msg404089.html#msg404089

If it is and you are using it with an XLR to 1/4"(6.3mm) adapter, the PSR975 may have a really hard time having enough gain for that mic and the adapter kind of makes it worse as it reduces some of the mics output when the adapter changes the 'balanced' output of the mic to 'unbalanced'.

A comparison of outputs of a few common mics. The higher the mv (millivolts), the easier it is to get volume from the mic. PA is a unit of 'sound pressure' pascal.
- Shure WH20XLR:  0.45 mv/PA
- Shure SM58: 1.6 mv/PA
- Sennheiser e935: 2.8 mv/PA

If it is the WH20XLR, you might need a mic preamp to boost the mic output to a level the PSR975 can make better use of.

I do have this mic as well and while it does sound good, I do have to set the gain much higher than other mics to get a comparable volume.

Thanks everyone. I have set the gain knob to max, still low. The shure mic works fine with Genos and Tyros, but not with the 975.

Thanks everyone. I have set the gain knob to max, still low. The shure mic works fine with Genos and Tyros, but not with the 975.

For years I used a Shure hand-held mic with my S900 and S910, but volume problems came with the purchase of the S975.

I replaced the Shure with a Sennheizer e845s which greatly improved the volume. The unbalanced cable I had used on the Shure was a little loose with the new mic, causing it to blank if not held just right. Got a new unbalanced cable with a snug fit, now everything is as should be.

FYI, I set my gain knob at the 3:00 position.

Toril,

Do you have any other mics you can try with your PSR975 and if so, do they give good volume and what brand/model are they?

Toril S

I have a Sennheiser too. Same problem.

Hello my friends :) Thanks to your help I have been able to solve the mic imput problem on my S975. The Shure is now coming through loud and clear. I have now assigned mic level and some other related functions to the live control knobs. This gives me the opportunity to adjust things on the fly, and I am very happy. But I had to bite the dust and admit that turning down style level is often required when singing, or it all gets overpowering. Slowly finding my way to be a better microphone user. Hugs to everyone! :)
