Hi Friends,

I have some standard midi files which have some guitar parts which uses general midi voicing (Overdrive), I selected the guitar track and changed it to one of the Lead Stage guitar tone, I want to add the amp and change the crunch and other parameters... How can this be achieved on the midi track?

I know how to change the voices of the midi tracks, but when I want to use the inbulit guitar tones and the amp setting and save it to the midi track, I can't seem to find the solution

If you play in the normal mode using style, one can select the guitar voice and play around with the amps and other details.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Phil, Not sure which keyboard you have but on a Genos I would do the following.
Make a user voice suitable for your requirements i.e edit the chosen voice with suitable amp changes and save to user. Go to Song recording using the chosen midi. Go to multiple recording. Open Mixer making sure it is using the Song tab. Select the instrument you want to change by selecting it ( a single tap on the instrument icon). Go to user and select the voice you have made. On Genos push setup and tick keyboard voice etc ( I tick all but guide setting ) push Execute. Last but most importantly save the file. I save as same name with a 1 added which keeps the original in case I mess things up. This is now your new midi with your chosen instrument. Basically you use Song Recording but don't record any notes just change the instrument and save. You can edit the sound from within the mixer if you want whilst in song recording. Hope this helps.

Hi Phil
ok I don't know many things  about the "amp" and the "crunch" of an electric guitar  ;D
but to change the voice and add stuff to a midi channel using the Song Creator,
you can go to 1-16 tab (if you own a Genos or an SX it will be there somewhere with a different name maybe)
choose the channel of the voice you want to play around with,
press the "filter"
and make sure the "control change" is ticked

Now along with the notes of the channels you can see all the effects and other parameters and you can add (change or delete) parameters

Take a look at the pictures here:

Maybe you could also use the Mixmaster and get things done easier somehow?

Some other basic effects for the midi channels you can change them when you call the Mixing Console while you are still in the Song Creator.

Hi Panos & Dragon,

Thanks for your inputs, I have the PSR S970, I tried the filter section but it shows grayed out... I use the song recording and get in the mixer settings and change the voice of the instruments, its easy to change and get the desired voice for most of them, only the guitar parts specially if its an GM Overdrive and I want to change it eg. to Guitar Hero, it changes the tones, but the effect on the Guitar Hero are missing when changed.

This is something I can't understand how to get it.

Hope I have expressed my view properly.

Thanks for any more inputs.

Open the mixer for the Song parts, and go to the 'effect' tab. You can assign insert effects to any of the song parts There are lots of DSP effects to choose from including distortion and multi effects.

However on the PSR there is a 'gotcha' in that there are only 4 DSP insert units available overall. If you assign a DSP to a song part, then start selecting panel voices, the system may remove the DSP from the song part to use it on the panel part instead.
