Broken D-button in style section.

My "D" variation button is almost broken. It is very loose to touch and lays a bit lower than the other buttons. It is fully functional, but I'm a bit anxious using it on my gigs, and presume it will brake at some point. I have to fix it. Can I do that my self? Or is that it a fixer-task? If I need to solder something I might leave it to the fix-man.

Any other that have had this problem?

Fortunately the assignable buttons can be assigned to fx the "D" button, so i might be able to do my gigs, but after Christmas I need a solution.

as Eileen said send it to Yamaha it also happened to me

Jim

Have a look at this video then you can decide.  I would repair it myself but then, I've been in that sort of work for 50+ years.

No matter Jim, you would still void the warranty if they found out. Only Yamaha certified repair shops can do that if you want to keep your warrenty.

Thanks for video and replies. The warranty is over, as I bought the first one in Denmark i nov. 2017. If the problem is only the physical button, and it is the same princip on Genos as shown on Tyros in the video, I can fix it myself. I have talked to my dealer (yes on a sunday - good service (-:) he will take contact to the Yamaha fixer in Denmark tomorrow morning to have the sparepart send to me. And I hope I can solve the problem before next gig on Friday.

I've give a report on the result here :-)

Hi Fleming,

I think this video may help you. It shows in detail how to replace the Main variation buttons.
It's not in English but I think it is pretty clear on how to proceed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td0D4r1_ASw

I also found this procedure on opening the Genos:

To open up the Genos:

You flip it over and lay the keyboard on something soft.
I used a winter feather filled bed cover.

Then you first remove 3 of  the 7 special screws that are  in front of the Keyboard where all the
Jacks and other connectors are.

Those are the 2 outer ones, plus the middle one, which would make it screw number 4.
When you are done with removing all the below mentioned screws, you can remove the rest
of the front screws.

Then you remove all the screws around the edges of the Genos,  15 in total.

Lastly you remove the 6 screws closest to the USB Stick, hold both halves of the  Genos
and flip it again right side up.
Then gently raise the top of the Genos a couple of inches,  starting at the back and pulling
towards you, where the keys are.

It will open cleanly without any problems, being mindful of not tugging at the  connecting
cables inside of course.

When you are done you just reverse the procedure, starting with the top screws in front,
then the middle screws near the USB Stick, and lastly the 15 screws on the edges of the
Genos.

As you will see all four buttons will be in a pack as they are all part of the bank that needs replacing.

My dear child is healthy again :-)

After my "D" broke sunday, my local dealer Danguitar told me that there was a 4 week delay in delivering that specific spare-part all over Europe (which is NOT normal). PANIK! But Yamaha Denmark found out that there was a transport-damaged Genos in Göteburg, Sweden and they stripped it for this sparepart, send it to Denmark and Danguitar solved the problem yesterday evening - after normal openning our - just to help me! SUPER SERVICE.

Remember that when you buy your  instruments, always use the local music-dealer! If I had bought my Genos on the internet in Germany fx, I've had to wait until late January to have my Genos fixed.

Unfortunately, last night my Break button was broken!  :'(
I hope it will be replace by the warranty, because we don't find replacement pieces in Romania!
I'm a little bit disappointed about Genos plastic buttons. Seems Tyros was more robust on buttons. I am not hit hard my buttons, but I think I pressed more like on a corner than center of button. Maybe that was it!

Vali

Eileen, it's about Break button, not mains buttons.

Thank you for the information. This happened to the Start/Stop button of my Genos just after 6 months of very gentle usage. I never expect this happens to an expensive professional arranger. since it still works I did not want to ask for warranty and take it to a repair shop. could you possibly let me know how can I order the parts? Thanks!

Hi bluali.

I'm from Europe, so I made an order in Poland, the only place where I found replacement parts for Genos.
Maybe you can ask directly Yamaha support for your button, because, as I see, the only parts I found for replace are Break and Main buttons.

Vali
