If you buy a midi file from Yamahasoft, they are already programmed (some quite excellently) to get the best sound.   You can just load them into sequencer and play.    If you purchase midi from somewhere else, or get it free. you might want to asign better instruments.   Most midi files, are programed with GM (General Midi).  A midi song will consist of different midi tracks, and each track is assigned to an instrument patch.

Load in your midi file into song sequencer and play away.

Yamaha soft midi files, do a lot of 'detail' work,  that is the guitar part might consist of three different guitar patches, giving you a real nice sound.
