I got a Tyros2, and I am tying to connect a Ketron SD90. I have connected a MIDI-cable from MIDI in on the Ketron to MIDI out on the Tyros and a sound cable from output on Ketron to input on Tyros. I have used the function-button on the Tyros, and chose MIDI and Master KBD1. Still no communication with the Ketron. I hear the drums, but no sounds and response to chords. The Ketron used to work fine with a Hammond SKX Pro. Maybe the MIDI settings on the Ketron has to be changed?

Welcome to the PSR Tutorial Forum, Bjornar!

To connect the Tyros2 to the Ketron SD90 via MIDI, I recommend the following procedure:

Connect MIDI A OUT of the Tyros2 to MIDI IN2 (KEYB) of the SD90.

On the Tyros2, set the preset MIDI template "KBD & STYLE". Important: Close the MIDI display by pressing EXIT button to save the changed setting.

With this setting, the right keyboard section (RIGHT 1/2/3) is handled as transmit part "UPPER" and sent on MIDI channel 1.The left keyboard section (LEFT part) is handled as transmit part "LOWER" and sent on MIDI channel 2.

It's important that the Left split point (default is F#2) is actually active. So make sure ACMP is on.

If you don't need one or more of the Tyros2 keyboard parts (LEFT, RIGHT 1/2/3), you can simply turn them off using the corresponding PART ON/OFF button. The aforementioned UPPER and LOWER parts will still be transmitted via MIDI.

On the Ketron SD90, please make sure that MIDI Receive channnels are set to channel 1 (right hand) and channel 2 (left hand/auto accompaniment).

It should now work as expected. Good luck!

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)
