A combination of the Genos with the SX900 is a very nice one.

Isn't the SX900 a Genos but with a different key-action, 61 instead of 76 keys, less polyphony and less voices? I'd say that if you have a Genos, you don't really need the SX900, since the Genos has so much more.

Two years ago i exchange my 970 for the SX900 would have loved the Genos but being a pensioner was beh0nd my financial pocket ive upgraded the sx900 to 5 its a nice keyboard and having 3 right hand voices and a new speaker system is great as well as touch screen great .saddly there isnt much gigging where i live in wales its mostly i play in the corner of my sitting room with earphones on so i dont interfere with the wife when she,s watching telly but i enjoy it . its a very relaxing hobbCheers Lofty

Hi Toril --

I'm definitely not one to give too much advice because I need to follow my own words with deeds.  :)

Even though it's nice to get the latest generation, there's almost always a reason to talk oneself into a new keyboard! I decided to skip at least one generation before upgrading. I started with S950, so I would have skipped the S975 before upgrading, for example.

I'm currently playing Genos and don't plan to upgrade beyond it. It's a thoroughly professional instrument and folks don't usually turn over a pro acoustic instrument whenever a new one comes out (e.g., ditching an acoustic piano or a saxophone for a new one).

I understand the portability issue and play a MODX at church gigs (no arranger features needed). Fortunately, recent instruments (including MODX) have built-in expansion memory and I have found new waveforms (voices) as a way to extend the life of an instrument or to add a sound that I really need when "playing live." Is there a way to add scat or choir voices through expansion?

Hope these thoughts help and that you're staying healthy -- pj

Hi Toril  :

In January 2021 I bought my new SX900.
Sold my Ty5/76.

IMHO a very good decision though but... Who am I ? 😃

Take care, Jeff
