Hi team,

I just did a backup of my Genos. It was taking time so I went and did something else. When I came back the progress bar in the Backup window was frozen. I removed the USB stick but nothing happened - still frozen. I tried to power down the Genos by holding the Power button down - it wouldn't power down. I grit my teeth and just pulled the plug, hoping that the only disaster would be a corrupted backup file on the USB stick.

The Genos rebooted all right and everything appears to be as it was. I copied the backup file from the USB stick to my PC. The last backup size was 7.69 MB - about 10 months ago (I know, I need to backup far more often!!). This recent backup is 8.64 MB, which makes perfect sense and seems to correspond with the amount of new material I've added to my Genos. I don't have any saved audio or MIDI files, just registrations, and a few custom styles.

So, what the heck went wrong?? The only thing I can contribute is when I rebooted the Genos and tested my most recent registration, the Genos asked me if I wanted to save the previous one I had worked on the night before. Evidently, I had forgotten to save it. Could this have caused a glitch in the backup?

I haven't had my Microsoft PC freeze up in years. What's going on with my Genos? Thanks.

Well the unsaved bank could have been the problem. I use my 64Gb USB installed under my Genos for my back up and have a copy of everything on my user. Every month or so I just remove this stick and save to my computer. Saves having to have a cable trailing across the floor.

Okay thanks, Eileen. I'll do another backup and see if it goes off smoothly :).

Hi Eileen
Instead of unplugging the usb under the keyboard ,why not get another 64 bit usb  and plug in the top front and save . Also all other Genos related things.
I would leave the one in underneath and stick wave files for pads  and sounds on etc
keep the usb in a case in a draw. I purchased a little pouch  on Amazon to put my Usb sticks in.
Just wondering about what you said that's all . Bit of a pain having to lift the keyboard up and open the bomb door every month. ;D :P "Sausages to that"!! ::)

All the best

Hi Lee
Sometimes all pc's freeze now and then.
If you have a Pc on for a long time with internet running it can happen.
Sometimes Pc's have a mind of their own :-\ ;D "Atificial Intelligence" ;D :o 8) 8) :-X

Good one, John.

If an "artificial hand" is a "hand that's not real" (like a prosthesis), then doesn't "artificial intelligence" mean "intelligence that's not real?"  :) ;) ;D :o!!

Then again, why do we park on the driveway and drive on the parkway???

Thanks, ckobu. I assume you meant the "USB storage method?"

Hi John,
No need to lift keyboard about. Just lay under keyboard and undo. Easy Peasy. If I am not taking the keyboard out for a while I leave the flap undone. I have been using my SX 900 for my concert easier to carry around.

Yes, as shown in the video.
My note about the settings in Genos, I recommend turning off Auto power.

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

I re-did the backup, this time making sure there were no opened processes running. It went fine with no freezing. The file size is identical to the previous, questionable one so just to be safe, I deleted the previous one made today and kept the new one.

Case closed :).

Hi Eileen
I got you there . Your keyboard is on a stand  and mine is on a desk.
I  think this update is 100%

Have you tried putting a Tyros 5 under your arm to carry about. You would have to be Geoff Capes!! ;D

Yes John,
I would find it very difficult to put a Tyros 5 under my arm as I don't have one :D

You are missing an arm, Eileen? No wonder it's difficult to carry the Tyros. Oops sorry, that's the technical writer in me sneaking past the grammar goalie ;D.
