The right way to use registrations

Hi,
I use registrations on my Tyros5 for years.
Have a lot of books with sheets.
My method is to make regs per book, so I made folders named book 1, 2 etc. and save the registrations in these folders.
I use one bank per song to create start, fill-in, instrument changes etc. etc.

My question is how to integrate this in Songbook+, because it's starts with a 3 digit bank select.
It seems to me that I did something wrong in the past ?

Hi Yamahaman,

to call up Registrations on a Tyros5 via MIDI from Songbook+, ALL Registrations must be stored in ONE (1) folder (on the Tyros' internal hard drive or on a USB stick).

If you actually use more than one folder for your Registration bank files (.rgt), you have to copy all Reg bank files to a single folder. (Due to system restrictions, the Tyros5 supports a maximum of 500 files per folder!)

Now, you must add 3-digit Numbers (starting with 001) to the beginning of the Reg file names. These Numbers must be continuous (no gaps!).

Here is an example of properly numbered Reg files in the Registration folder that is used in conjunction with Songbook+:

001 Songname X.rgt
002 Songname A.rgt
002 Songname E.rgt
003 Reserved.rgt
004 Reserved.rgt
005 Reserved.rgt
006 Reserved.rgt
...
...
010 Songname L.rgt
011 Songname G.rgt
...
...
499 Songname Y.rgt
500 Songname R.rgt
(More than 500 files are NOT allowed!)

Note: Because the iPad (via USB-MIDI) can only transmit on MIDI Port 1 (of the Tyros5), you have to make a User-defined MIDI Template:

• Press "[Function] ---> MIDI" and select the MIDI Template "All Parts" (in Preset tab).
• Press "Edit" and tab to "Receive".
• In this display go to the TOP LINE and change the setting of "PORT 1      CH 1" from "SONG" to "KEYBOARD".
• Press [Exit] button, then tab to "USER" drive. Press "Save", change the file name of the MIDI Template (for example to "Songbook+") an press "OK" to save your new Template here.
• Make sure that this new MIDI Template (in USER tab) is SELECTED now (!)
• Press [Exit] again to close the MIDI display.

• In the "MIDI settings" of Songbook+ make sure to have selected MIDI Channel 1.
• Furthermore, at "Easy Keyboard Control" set the "Control Mode" to "YAMAHA Tyros + PSR975/775 Registration (with Code)".

To link a "Song" of Songbook+ to a particular Registration (in your Reg folder on Tyros5):

• Touch "Edit" in the Status Bar of Songbook+ to open "Edit song details".
• Find the "Code" text box and type in the 3-digit number of the Registration file you want to link.
• This will call up that Registration Bank and the Registration Memory (button) #1 in that Bank.
• If you want to call up a different Reg Memory (button), type in a DOT behind the 3-digit number, followed by the number of the desired Reg button:

Examples for Numbers in the "Code" box ("Edit song details"):

001 (or 001.1) ---> First Registration Bank and Reg button #1
002.4  ---> Second Registration Bank and Reg button #4
003.8  ---> Third Registration Bank and Reg button #8

• To save the made changes in "Edit song details" touch "Save" and (if you don't want to edit another Song's details) touch also "Done".

• On Tyros5 you have to MANUALLY select a Registration Bank now (inside the folder you made for use with Songbook+).

• Make sure to have connected the iPad via the "Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter" and a USB type "AB" cable to the USB-to-Host connector of the Tyros5.

• Now, when you touch a particular Song in the List of Songbook+, the linked Registration should be called up on Tyros5.

P.S.
Please refer also to this special Songbook+ Manual:

Hope this helps!

Chris,
Do I have to adjust all my registrations one by one with the midi setup you suggest?

Hi Yamahaman,

on Yamaha Keyboards, the MIDI Setup (MIDI Template) is always GLOBAL. It affects the whole Keyboard (in fact the two internal MIDI Ports), and the current MIDI Template can NOT be linked to (or changed by) Registrations.

You only have to make the MIDI Settings (I mentioned above) ONCE and to copy your Registration bank files to ONE new folder and to finally add the 3-digit numbers at the beginning of the file names. There is nothing else to do on the Tyros5, at this time. :)

I recommend to copy and rename the .rgt files on a computer. If the files are on the T5's hard drive, you can use the USB Storage Mode to access the data from the computer. If the Registration files are on a USB stick already, simply connect the stick to the computer.

Best regards,
Chris
