Hi, As you may already notice, I'm very interested on Genos because I love it. Now I have the PSR S970 and I like the electric guitar sounds and DSP effects but when I hear the electric guitars and DSP effects of the Genos I can really notice that there is an improvement in the quality of both, but I'm want to know exactly, What is new on Genos? More voices? More amp simulators? Thank you in advance!

Hi, I dont have or had the PSR S970 so I cannot compare, but I think you will find the answer to most of your questions by downloading the Genos data list - https://europe.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/3/1131013/genos_en_dl_e0.pdf. The data list will list all the voices and DSPs available on Genos.
There is huge amount of guitar effects. Just the distortion section have 10 pages of different effects.

Best regards

Hi Rodrigo,

it is not easy to describe what exactly is better on the Genos compared to the S970, because simply EVERYTHING is better. :)

There is a downloadable Genos Brochure that you could compare with the features of the S970. In addition, you should compare the Specifications of the two models.

Genos:
https://uk.yamaha.com/files/download/brochure/7/1129927/Genos_brochure_2017_EN.pdf
https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/genos/index.html
https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/genos/specs.html

PSR-S970:
https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/psr-s970/features.html
https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/psr-s970/specs.html

Some examples of improvements:
• The amount of Insert Effect Blocks (= Insert DSPs), for example, is extremly different between those two models (S970: 3 Insert DSPs + 1 Variation DSP, Genos: 28 Insert DSPs + 1 Variation DSP).
• Genos has much better Digital/Analog Converters.
• Genos has 75 "Super Articulation 2" Voices, S970 has none of them.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Hi --

I've been meaning to compare Genos vs. MODX, so it made sense to draw up a few lists.

Genos is definitely a step up from S970. The "Real Distortion" DSP effects are Yamaha's latest and greatest. Genos has more Real Distortion effects than S970:

Genos              S970
-----------------  -----------------
Tweed Guy
Boutique DC
Y-Amp
Distomp
80s Small Box
US Combo           US Combo
Jazz Combo         Jazz Combo
US High Gain       US High Gain
British Lead       British Lead
Multi FX           Multi FX
Small Stereo Dist  Small Stereo Dist
British Combo      British Combo
British Legend     British Legend

Some Genos voices use the existing S970 effects with different settings/presets. The new SX900 is at the same level as S970.

Other recent effects include the Virtual Circuit Modeling (VCM) effects which model vintage pedals and such:

Uni Comp
VCM Compressor     VCM Compressor
VCM Flanger        VCM Flanger
VCM Phaser         VCM Phaser
VCM Auto Wah       VCM Auto Wah
VCM Touch Wah      VCM Touch Wah
VCM Pedal Wah      VCM Pedal Wah

Genos has a new compressor algorithm (Uni Comp) that is used extensively in its preset styles. Uni Comp has a number of guitar and bass presets. The SX900 does not have Uni Comp.

Genos has newer guitar waveforms (samples) than S970. In particular, Genos has a Telecaster, Stratocaster and Music Man Sting Ray bass. The Genos voices using those samples begin with "50s", "60s" and "ActiveBass", respectively. The SX900 adds the Telecaster (50s), but not the Stratocaster (60s) or Sting Ray.

The list of Mega Voices, by the way, is a good place to look for new guitar and bass samples. These same waveforms are used in Super Articulation voices. It's a quick way to make a comparison.

Hope this helps out -- pj
