looking for church and worship styles or songstyles

jaebea

I am getting the S975 tomorrow (Friday).  I lead worship at my church, needing a performance arranger rather than what I have now.  What kind of worship styles are you looking for?  Traditional-hymns? Contemporary? Gospel? Country? Hosanna Integrity/Maranatha? Prophetic?  One of the songs I will be doing on Sunday is How Great is Our God.  Are you familiar with that song?  I will be jumping right on that keyboard tomorrow checking out styles.

I apologize for the late reply.  I saw this thread, and intended to respond to it, got interrupted, and forgot about it for a while.

I, too, lead the music for our Catholic Church every Sunday.  I tend to use the Worship and the Gospel Styles, as you would expect.  I also use the Freeplay styles quite a bit.  I generally play from the CBW (Catholic Book of Worship) II, in which many hymns are 4 part harmony.  I figure out the chords, and use the freeplay style with accompaniment set to Full Chord or Trio to replicate the organ sound.  Or sometimes an Orchestra, or sometimes a brass ensemble.  Whatever works.

I use a lot of other styles for the music as well.  Irish Hymn (I & II), and Love Song have been used.  I have also found that other styles you wouldn't expect can also be used.  For example, in trying to find a 3/4 style for "Lord Jesus of You I Will Sing", I accidentally selected the Jazz Waltz.  For the fun of it, I did some experimenting, and found that if I turned off everything in the style, except the guitar, and bass, I got a nice strum effect that worked well for that particular hymn.  So, now when orchestrating a new hymn, if I'm having difficulties, I'll choose a style that fits the meter, turn everything off, and then bring it each part separately to see if anything works, or if it would work if I changed the Instrument.  That's been working out pretty good.

Hope this helps!

Adam

PS.  It hasn't come up yet, but I figure if anyone complains about my instrument choice, I will direct them to Psalm 150, in which it says:

Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
praise Him with the harp and lyre.
Praise Him with tambourine and dancing;
praise Him with strings and flute.
Praise Him with clashing cymbals;
praise Him with resounding cymbals.

Hello
I play in church each Sunday but do not use styles. I play either a Genos or Tyros 4. My normal settings would be a piano with say a mellow pad layered with it to give the sound some depth. I might also add an organ or some strings too.

There really isn't any particular style I am using.  I have been using the 975 for a month now.  Usually, Monday or Tues, I choose 2 - 4 songs, chord them out, then sit down to the keyboard and work out the arrangements.  For the fast songs, I am going right to pop/rock styles.  For the slower songs, I am sorting through ballad and R&B styles.  There is actually three styles in R&B on the second to the last page that are called Worship - slow, med and fast.  I actually haven't used them yet but they are nice and will use them eventually.  It usually takes me an evening or two to do all the song arrangements.  I save them as registrations as I go.  I am doing new songs every week so it is really fun and challenging to create the arrangements but I love it!
