What is the meaning if people write clearly that the 1.3 system is loading on the same stick and the 1.4 system does not load..!!

After exhausting all  possibilities I've come to the conclusion that the keyboard is faulty. It cannot read the v 1.4  usb in any of the ports. I was trying to test this theory by reinstalling  v1.3 which is running on the Genos at the moment but I can't find it on the Yamaha website to download. Would anybody know where I can find v 1.3  or recommend another way to test if the USB ports are working ok.

As I understand that, he did NOT use the same USB stick with Update V1.30, at this time.

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Vali :

Are you serious ?
Might it be possible your suggestions are not realistic, almost a bridge too far ?😟

It is hard to believe the Yamaha electronic - and software engineers are making this kind of mistakes !!!😰
Why should they ?💣

Sorry ... I do not buy that. Nobody will here, I guess.

Yamaha's employees are very serious and reliable people.

Babette

Hi Babette.

Taking in consideration that USB stick (or many) is not the problem (because he said he could install v1.30 from the same USB stick, but 1.40 could not be able to install it) the only problem I see is the hardware incompatibility !
I want to believe I am wrong, but could be a reason!

Regards,
Vali

Hi Vali :

I see.
Only Yamaha can give the answer and/or solve this problem.
Hope these people will be helped out asap.😎

Bill

Obviously the problems people are having is a difficult issue for us to determine what is going on, however a couple of suggestions from me.

It is obvious that the PRG File is in the correct place and is being read, otherwise the installer would not know it is update 1.4.  I would find it difficult to accept that the problem was down to a Hardware issue with the keyboard.  This leads me to thing that there maybe a configuration issue with the problem KB's that we have not setup.

IE.

Have you setup the Keyboard Lock Facility
Have you got a custom screen background set up.
Have you enable the facility to display your name.

I would try a FULL RESET not a Soft Reset   and try again.

Current KB:  YAMAHA GENOS 2

I guess for those that absolutely cannot or unable to install the update, your only option is to take the keyboard to an authorized repair center and have them do the task for you.

Good luck,

Yes .. looking like a firmware issue to me now. Firmware is the software inside hardware components, that make them work. I'm willing to bet there are different hardware/software revisions inside Genos.
If it IS a firmware issue, Yamaha would have to issue a patch fix for troubled owners.
For now, I don't think Yamaha know at all. They would need a donor kb (that exhibits the fault) for testing.

Hi AlBags,
Thanks for your suggestion which I tried.i.e I downloaded  the program from a PC instead of my iMac. Genos read the usb this time and started to load 1.4 and I thought I'd cracked it. But then it stopped. I've tried it in all three sockets but it stops shortly after identifying the usb. With the iMac download it couldn't even see the usb so it's a slight improvement but still useless.. Never had this problem before. It's a pity in a way that so few people are affected otherwise Yamaha would have to sort it out. My dealer has gone bust and  Yamaha  are not being helpful.
Looks like I'm stuck with 1.3.

Why not go to a Yamaha service centre ?
Warranty, right ?

Perhaps the 1.4 update writes into an area of the Genos firmware that hasn't been updated before and that area in a few rare Genos instances has become non-writable (corrupt). Pure speculation of course.

AlBags

Looks that way, or incompatibility somewhere, Stuart ..
A lot of hardware controllers, each with FW. Who know which one.
I would have thought Yamaha had received a KB for analysis by now. Shame they never seem to say whats going on.
I would expect a downloadable patch or another FW, like 1.41 to fix.

Babette,   I could   take it to a service centre but the nearest one is an 8hr round journey. Not keen on that but may have to bite the bullet. . My dealers closed down so not sure on the warranty period.

Alfred59

Does anybody know the uk warranty period for the Genos?  My dealer who has now closed down in Exeter wrote 2 years on my receipt. I can't find anything about it on the web.

EB5AGV

All Europe has, by law, at least 2 years warranty.

If you register with Yamaha, they'll give you a 2 year warranty and a free expansion pack.

I should add that, as Jose said, you're entitled to a 2 year warranty anyway.

I usually wait after the release of software upgrades and let the early download installer people test it for me in the hope that any problems are identified and sorted before I go ahead. So I think I'll wait another month or so before I install 1.4.

Thank you to everyone for the information and suggestions on this topic. I've  reached the end of the road so to speak so will have to  take it into Yamaha, an 8hr round trip. Alfred

May you share, if you prefer by private message, the serial number of your unit?. I still think it is a good idea to find out which serial numbers are affected.

Thanks!

Whereabouts in the UK are you and where are you proposing to drive to with your Genos?

Alfred59

Hi Chris,
I live near exeter and my nearest repair centre is Milton Keynes. I reckon 4hrs each way maybe less on a good day. Why do you ask?
Alfred

EB5AGV

Did you try the FULL RESET procedure?. Other people have found it as the solution to the upgrade problem.

Just in case!

Well I asked because I thought there might be a service centre nearer to you than Milton Keynes but clearly there isn't.

When I had a problem with my Tyros 5, I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and they boxed it and posted it to Yamaha who fixed it and posted it back to my dealer - all free of charge because it was under warranty.

I had to wait a couple of weeks while all this happened but at least I didn't have to take it to Yamaha myself. If you take it to Yamaha yourself, I might be wrong but, I doubt they'll fix it for you while you wait so you're likely to be faced with another 8 hour trip.

I'm assuming your dealer was Pianoroom which I see their website is shut down?

Why don't you give Musicroom in Exeter a ring and explain your issue with the Genos and ask them if they can do anything to help?

Your Genos is definitely under warranty and ultimately this is Yamaha's responsibility to fix. If Musictoom won't help, I'd recommend you ring Yamaha and ask them how they can fix your Genos without you doing two 8 hour trips. They may of course say you should post it yourself but I would argue and say that's not reasonable. They might then contact Musicroom on your behalf.

Good luck!

Cheers

A couple of people have managed now to install the update by firstly doing a complete factory reset first. If you do this make sure you have everything you use saved to USB first so that if the update takes it off you can restore it from your USB when update completed.
As far as I know there are only around half a dozen members that are having this problem but so many threads have been started on this subject that it has got very confusing.

Well I just used a USB stick which had some other stuff on it I left the underneath USB stick in just put the unzipped file on the root of the stick and it all worked just fine. I have never had a problem with any updates on any of my Tyros's or now on the Genos and I have always done them the same way.
Bill

EileenL

Yes Bill,
I did mine without any problem too but for some reason a few people had problems. I think most are now sorted.

Chris,
Thanks for your advice. I contacted the other dealer in Exeter. It seems the Genos has to be returned to a Yamaha repair centre and not to  the dealer.. They referred me to E&M electronics one of Yamahas authorised repair centres who told me they have had two other keyboards returned with the same problem. I didn't keep my packaging so they are sending me a box to pack it in. They hopefully will sort out the problem and return it to me with the upgrade installed.

Great news Alfred!

Please keep us posted on how it turns out.

Amazingly I've installed v1.4 on my Genos today. Yamahas' repair centre  E&M electronics sent me a copy of their firmware  which arrived today on a usb. It installed straightaway with no rejection. Looking on the usb the icon is just the same as the icon on the various usbs I've tried. I've asked them to let me know the source of their firmware in case they've accessed it in a different way which is unlikely I know.
Anyway result. 'Go figure' as you Americans would say.

SeaGtGruff

What were the brands of USB flash drives that you were using, and what was the brand they sent you?

Alfred59

I've had a reply to my query from the service centre as to why my usbs didn't load the 1.4 firmware. They think it's because I hadn't uses a Yamaha supported usb. I checked my 5 usb sticks and none are on their list!
They tell me that my usbs will work with the Genos generally but not for the firmware upgrades. I'm not sure that's been the case on previous upgrades I've installed  but maybe they have a point.
