Earl, this is a very difficult song to play, mainly because it has not only a tempo shift, but you must also use the drum kit in a multi pad for the silent section (drums excepted) where the tempo increases with just the drums until the vocals kick in once again along with the accompaniment. Much better to do this with a midi file if you want to get close to the real thing.

Here is where you will find the best ones, but they are not cheap. About $10 unless you buy 3 or more, then the price drops to about $6 each. If you really need it bad, though, here's the link: https://www.midi.com.au/alabama/mountain-music-midi/

Now, back when I used to do this song I used the standard bluegrass style, tempo of about 110 to kick it off, then when the song kicked into high gear, I ramped it up to 140, C variation, and hit some hit fiddle licks.

Hope this helps,

Here is a link to how Alabama recorded the song and this version uses a transition at 2:44 that could be pulled off using a registration file to increase the songs tempo.

I remember hearing the drum solo that Gary is referring to and thought it was in this song also, but it isn't in this version. I know it was in one of their songs because my live country band did it that way too. I checked a couple other songs, "Tennessee River" and "Dixieland Delight" but neither of them had that drum break solo either.

Gary, I know we both couldn't be that crazy about how this song went.  ;D

I might try and tackle this one later and do it as the first version link I posted was done.  ;)
