hello am new to this forum have only had my tyros 4 for a couple of months,  am very pleased with it. Question on Midi files is it possible to have the voices change automatically on the keyboard whilst playing a midi file. I have followed the song creator function all works well can play the midi file back in song creator all works fine on channel 1 to 16 setting, when I go back down the tabs and press execute and save the play back.  The voice in the midi file changes, but on the voice keyboard stays the same not automatically changing to the midi file voice setting . Hope i have explained this okay.

I believe that should be possible.

You'll need to have the voice change events (Bank Select MSB, LSB, Program Change, and any desired CC changes) saved on the channels that will be used for the parts you want to affect (Right1, Right2, Right3, Left), at the positions (bars and beats) where you want the changes to occur.

Presumably you won't have Note events on those channels, since you'll be playing the parts yourself. If the Song Creator won't let you insert and save the events on an otherwise "empty" channel (I have no experience with PSR-S/Tyros/Genos, so I'm not sure whether that might be a problem), then you could insert the desired events in the MIDI file using a DAW, or MixMaster, or other MIDI editor.

On the keyboard, you'll need to go into the MIDI Receive settings and assign the specific parts you want to control to the specific song channels you want to control them with, such as setting Right1 to be received from channel 1, Right2 from channel 2, etc.

I would suggest that you start with a simple file to verify for yourself that it works, and to familiarize yourself with the procedure. Once you feel confident enough, you can get more ambitious. :)

Thank you for your reply I think this will be complexed I have downloaded mix master so will give it a try.

SeaGtGruff

Yes, it could be as complex or as simple as you want to make it, which is why I recommend starting small to become familiar with it.

Don't try to change multiple parts yet; just stick to the Right1 part for now.

And don't worry about trying to set all of the CC parameters (Channel Volume, Pan, Reverb Depth, Chorus Depth, DSP Depth, etc.); just start with the Bank Select MSB, LSB, and Program Change.

I think what you are asking is if when the Midi file is playing it will load the voice to one of the registration parts and the answer is no. The only way this can happen is if you record the midi file using the OTS voices. These are registered into the midi instructions.
If using a commercial midi file the only way is to mute the melody track and play along to it using registration banks.

Many thanks Eileen can now see that I have been looking down the wrong path I will try the OTS with the style.

SeaGtGruff

I'm sorry that I misunderstood what you were hoping to do, and steered you down the wrong path. But at least, if you ever want to try having the song file change voices automatically as you're playing, without you needing to switch registrations or recall a different OTS voice, now you know how it can be done.

Thanks for your reply Michael I will also be trying your suggestion as this instrument has opened up such a lovely new path for me to take in retirement.

If you want the panel voices (R1, R2, R3) to change automatically as the MIDI file plays, or when it first starts, then you can do this.

In the song creator, go to the 'setup' page and stop the playback where you want the voices to change. Pick R1 R2 R3 as you want. Make sure 'keybpard voice' is picked then hit Execute to apply the change to the midi file. Most other changes to a MIDI file, such as tempo, are burned in at the start but the panel voice setup goes at the point where the file is currently stopped.

Remember to save the changes to the MIDI file when you are done.
