Hi all,

For now I am stuck with a 15 year old laptop that still uses XP. My version of YEM can do VERY little editing. I have a question please:

I have a pack with roughly 70 voices on it. I want to delete around 50 or so of those voices without loosing the slot positions of the voices remaining. Can it be done?

Tx for any help,
Henni

Hi Henni,
It's so sad that a talent person like you can't have new newer PC to use with new YEM. I've heard that with YEM, you can import voices, select the ones that you want, and export to a new pack.

Hi my friend,

I had a pc with Windows 8.1 with the latest version of YEM. That's how I created this pack. I purchased the pc used from someone. After a month or so, Windows 8.1 timed out. It stopped working all together eventually. No pc company in my area will either sell me a copy of Windows 8.1 or repair my version. They say it would be illegal as Win 8.1 is no longer available and the current copy is linked to a serial on my HD.

For now I cannot get around this so I am using my old laptop with XP. Life seems to be busy changing for us. Because of serious angina and my age I could not hunt for work. I used to earn a good income as a Senior Project Engineer in process automation,  but never provided for my old age. I now pay the price for that.

But alas, cowboys don't cry. Life will get good again for us. It's just a matter of time...

Yes, but be sure you don't change the PC (Program Change Number).

In other words, if you eliminate the Voices you don't want, leave the current Voices assigned to the original Program Change Numbers. This way when you play your styles, they will all work correctly.

The best way to do that is drag and drop the Voices you want to slots starting from the beginning of the list (program 000 position).  Once you have relocated all the Voices you want... the Voices you wish to remove will be at the end of the list.  Now you can just delete those you don't want.  But make sure when you drag 'n drop the voices they still have the same original PC Number.

Don't forget to save you new shortened pack with a new name.

Hi Joe H,

Thank you so much for your feedback. I am so glad this can be achieved.

All the best my kind friend,

Henni,

I assume you have already Exported your pack and saved it to disk. Since you have an older version of YEM, you might try deleted the Voices you don't want first then move the remaining voices to empty slots in YEM. Then check to see if the Program Change Numbers are still the original numbers and haven't been re-assigned by YEM.

I have a pack that the programmer decided to group all the Basses together and all the lead Voices together after he created his pack. When he moved them around the Voices maintained their original PC number. So I hope this will work for you also.

If I have some time today I will try this myself. It could be that the latest version of YEM supports more functions.

I will try deleting some voices in a save pack of mine and and rearrange the Voices and will report back the results.

Hi Joe H,

Yes, that's EXACTLY how I created that pack. However, the last version of YEM that will run on XP allows NO edditing whatsoever. I can import a pack, assign the keyboard definition file, but THAT IS IT!!! I cannot even highlight a voice let alone left or right click on it.

So I cannot add, delete or even move things around. I will see what plan I can come up with to either get my other PC repared or purchase a later model used one. Maybe I can swap some sound equipment for something. I can see that this will become a requirement for me as I progress with the styles.

Keep well my talented friend,

I just did my test on V2.5.2.

Here's how its done.

1. Select your pack so you can view the list of Voices.
2. Select Voices you want to delete (hold the Control Key down to do this in one operation)
3. Then click the arrow button on the lower half of the screen just to the right of the Plus button
4. Select Delete from the menu
5. Now without selecting any Voice click the arrow button again and select Edit Program Change

This will take you to the screen that displays all the Voices and PC Numbers. You will see blank slots where the deleted Voices were.  You don't need to do anything else accept save the edited pack.

Hope this helps.  If the above functions are not available in your version, maybe you can find someone with a Win7 machine that will to let you install the latest version of YEM to do the edits.

I'll mention here that because I'm maxed-out on my expansion memory, I combined selected Voices from difference packs by Exporting the Voices as a .ppf file (from each pack) and then created a new pack and Imported those Voices from each pack I saved (as a ppf).

You can Import a .ppf as "Content".  So I Imported each (several) .ppf files as Content to create a custom (favorites) pack with Voices from several different packs. YEM assigned each Voice the original Program Change Numbers.  Where there were conflicts I assume it assigned a new PC number to some. After giving my new pack a name... I saved the pack right away so didn't loose my work.

I bought a Win7 machine on eBay for cheap. Maybe that's an option for you.

Hi my friend,

This is EXACTLY how I created my pack on the other PC when it still worked. Thank you so much for taking the time for these detailed explanations.

After reading over my process, I guess you could just Export your favorite Voices, then create a new pack and Import those Voices as Content. That would be a simple way of doing things as well.

Hi Henni,

Some good news!

I did another test in YEM.  I selected a number of Voices from a custom pack and Exported them as Content making a note of their original PC Numbers.

I then created a new pack and Imported the Content I saved as a .ppf.

When I Imported the Content I looked at all the PC Numbers and they were EXACTLY the same PC Numbers as the originals.
