I' trying to find out if I can save the vocal harmony on/off at different points in a midi file. I want to be able to turn on VH without having to stop playing to push the physical VH button. Does anybody have any suggestions.  I have tried to save the on status by pausing the midi file at the point I want to turn on VH, push VH on, and then open song creator, select Channel, and save the setting with the VH/Mic box checked. then save to the midi file. This does not seen to work. :-\ OH, forgot,,,tyros 5 -76
Thanks

Hello Proteus,

My immediate question is how are you creating the midi file? If you are using your keyboard and midi quick recording then I am sorry to say I don't know of any way you can automatically turn the VH on and off.

However if you are using software to create your midi file or can use software to modify your midi file then it is entirely possible. here's how:

You can send a sy*** command inserted in a midi file to turn the VH on and off.

To turn the VH on, use the following sy*** command: F0 43 10 4C 04 00 0C 40 F7
To turn the VH off, use the following sy*** command: F0 43 10 4C 04 00 0C 7F F7

Save your midi file, play it back and enjoy automatic VH on and off.

I did this by first saving the ON/OFF function to an effect pedal. I then sat and recorded the song and just hit the pedal when I wanted it on and then hit the pedal again when I wanted it off. It worked with no problem and was written into the midi file.

Ellen, Thanks!!
First this sounds great, one question
I'm not sure why the message would modify the midi file without being in the record mode?
Thanks Dave

Eileen's suggestion is absolutely spot on. Me, I am just a geeky, nerdy type of person so I immediately jump to a software fix - lol.
