Trimming the beginning of the pad

Sometime while creating a Pad, I have to wait for the current measure. The pad gets created fine but with some space in the beginning.
How does one in edit panel for the pad trim off the beginning blank timeline.
Thanks

The only way to do this is to move the time of each note/event in the MIDI so that the pattern starts at M:B:T  001:1:0000 (or wherever you want it to start).

It is easy to change the time of events in the Edit page of the keyboard's Multi Pad Creator, but it can be a lot of work even for relatively short pads!

You could easily do this on a DAW but I find that the easiest way to do it is to use the PC program 'MixMaster', which can move entire selections of events in time, to start at a specified time.  This maintains the timing between notes so is much easier than trying to use Multi Pad Creator on a note by note basis.

You can download MixMaster from the page at this link...

Ian, What is the full form of M B T ? Couldnt find it anywhere.

tyrosaurus

It is just one way of referring to the position in a MIDI file.

It represents time in terms of M (Measure or Bar No.): B (Beat): and T (Ticks of which there are 1920 per quarter note in Yamaha arranger files).  Some people seem to use use the term 'Clocks' instead of 'Ticks' so you may see MIDI times expressed as M:B:C but it represents the same thing.

The MIDI events start at M:B:T  001:1:0000 (Measure 1: Beat 1: Ticks 0), and a Multi Pad set to repeat will return to this time when it reaches the end of the pattern.

I'm not yet familiar with Mixmaster. Will check it out later this eve.
So using Mixmaster, opening a pad/midi file one can essentially set the MBT start value to a different Measure, Beat and Tick value(s) and that will now become the new starting point. Correct ?

Using 'List view' in MixMaster, you can filter the 'View' display to show only the events on a specific channel (e.g. for a Multi Pad file, pad #1 will be on Channel 1).

If you then select the notes and other events that you want to move, you can use at least two of the program's functions in the 'Other' > 'Process Events' menu.

There is 'Move Selected Events to Begin at a MBT' which should be the obvious one to use, but the current (and previous) MM version seems to have a bug which generates an error when you try to use this function!

However there is also the process 'Move MBT of Selected Events By Delta Time' which does work.  When you select this from the process list, a box pops up which allows you to select time shift that you want to apply, and whether to shift the events earlier or later than their current times.

There is a PDF help file/user manual for the program which should have been set up when you installed the program.

Thanks for helping..

Ian, thanks for the insights.  I'm going to spend some time on the weekend and read thru the manual and then try this out.

When creating Multi pads that you want to set on repeat your timing must be spot on. If not you will get gaps as it repeats.

You might try PadMaker-Midi.  You can select the start time and set the length of the Pad and listen to it before you save it as a Pad.
