Hiya

So I went ahead and bought the iTec Trio USB2 adaptor, plugged it into the Genos and connected via HDMI male to male cable to my Sony TV.

The Genos recognised the adaptor and offers me the display options as discussed above, which I configured to mirror Genos display BUT I don't get any video output to the TV (Which is switched to the correct HDMI input channel).

An I right in thinking that the Genos will only provide a VGA signal out of the iTec Trio adaptor?

Thanks

Steve

My 8 year old Panasonic flatscreen did not display  the Genos.
But the 1 year old monitor did display the Genos.
I did not use the same hdmi cable .
May be the hdmi cable is the issue or the resolution or the age of my flatscreen.
Best Regards,
Wim

Hi Steve,

Your iTec USB2HDTRIO USB 2.0 display adapter has DVI output interface, with DVI to VGA adapter, and DVI to HDMI adapter.  The Genos external video output is 800x600 resolution.

What Sony TV model do you have that cannot display Genos video output?  Does it support 800x600 resolution if you look up the specifications of your Sony TV model?

You should test your Genos display output with a monitor that supports the resolution of 800x600.  Some of the older TVs do not support 800x600 resolution, they usually support 1280x720 (720P/HD), and 1920x1080 (1080P/FHD), but not 800x600.

Thanks,
Paul

Your problem likely is that your equipment is too smart for its own good. The Genos will not output to the port unless it knows there's a device that's listening on the other side. Unfortunately, the TV won't display anything unless it knows there's something transmitting on the other side.

I solved the problem by:
1. Hook up the Genos to a dumb device (eg, a computer monitor).
2. When it displays, then switch the connection to your TV.

Sometimes Smart TVs are too smart.

OK so the HDMI connection should work, that's good to know!
When I asked my better half when we bought the 40 Sony TV she replied "The year after Jill Halfpenny won Strictly Come Dancing".

So after a quick Google I can confidently state that the TV was bought new in 2005, so it's ONLY 13 years old.

Going to acquire ofrborrow a display with HDMI input as most of mine are to large/hefty to move from office to house.

Will report back in due course.
Thanks for all the replies.

A quick update

Wasn't able to borrow/locate an HDMI screen but did connect up a 4:3 aspect ratio Lenovo monitor with only a VGA input and confirm that the screen mirroring and Lyric/text worked. So the USB device is working.

Display quality wasn't brilliant, certainly wouldn't want to use it full time. Display was probably 6 years old at least.

Looked at the 8" 800*480 HDMI input displays as mentioned on another post but can't find one with a mains input, all seem geared up to be used on a cars 12 volt DC.

No HDMI input on my 2012 27" iMac only Thunderbolt (which I sometime use as a screen for my Mac Mini).

Thinking I might dedicate the Mac Mini to the Genos and purchase a dual input display so I can switch between Mac Mini and the Genos.

I have the itek USB adaptor and have tried two different makes of adaptor and two types of display a computer monitor and TV and in all circumstances when I'm displaying lyrics or anything after about 1 or 2 minutes I get a software error on the screen and the only way to clear this is to remove the power cable I am on version 1.3 I am wondering if anyone else has the same problem when using external display

Hi John,

Genos at its firmware version 1.30 still cannot handle external display of CDG MP3 karaoke lyrics.  There is no solution yet from Yamaha.

The workaround is to unplug the USB 2.0 display adapter before playing CDG MP3 karaoke files using Genos built-in 9-inch touchscreen only, or you can setup a camera/webcam to shoot the Genos built-in screen and feed the video signal to an external monitor or TV.

Thanks,
Paul

I have the itek USB adaptor...

Hi John,

what is the exact TYPE of this iTec display adapter?

Is it the "USB2HDTRIO"?

Important: It must be a USB2 device. USB3 adapters will NOT work properly with the Genos.

Chris

It is the usb2 one as you stated

Hi John,

I had only ONCE a problem with this adapter: The adapter was connected to the Genos while transmitting data from YEM to Genos via Wi-Fi. The Genos OS suddenly FROZE, and the only thing I could do was to unplug the power cord.

BUT I do NOT use this USB display adapter constantly.

I get the problem everytime I try to display lyrics on the external monitor, within about 1 minute.. it's definitely a software bug which may get fixed but as external monitors are no longer supported will probably never work

Hi John,

As I mentioned before, Genos hangs within a short time when displaying lyrics from CDG MP3 files on external display.

Genos can display lyrics of MIDI files on external monitor without hanging, at least I have not found any MIDI files with lyrics that hangs the Genos.

I do not quite understand what you meant by "but as external monitors are no longer supported will probably never work".  Did Yamaha announce that external display for Genos will not be supported?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul, i have a Question.
I use a "Shuttle all in one" Touchscreen Computer with USB 2.0 and a Webcam. My Question: Is it possible,
to see the Genos Lyrics of this Shuttle Screen with the Elgato Cam Link?

Thank you

Hi Siggi,

Your description is so brief that I do not have enough information to answer your question precisely.

If the "Shuttle all in one" Touchscreen Computer has only USB 2.0, then the use of the Elgato Cam Link may not be proper because this USB dongle is USB 3.0.  The USB 2.0 connection may provide insufficient video bandwidth.  If you already have the Elgato Cam Link, it does not hurt to try since the Genos external display may not need a lot of video bandwidth.  However, if you have not purchased the Elgato Cam Link USB 3.0 dongle, then I do not recommend you waste your time in testing whether it works or not - it may work but with problems due to USB 2.0 port of your all in one PC, so you may not get support of this product in case you encounter any troubles.

There are two types of lyrics (you did not specify which one):
1.  CDG MP3 karaoke files - Genos hangs when displaying lyrics from these files to external display - Elgato Cam Link included.
2.  MIDI files - Genos displays lyrics from MIDI files to external display without hanging.

Thanks,
Paul

Not sure that this can help you . . . . however,

are you considering displaying the lyrics in PDF . . .   ?    you can then have the PDF in your computer and link the PDF to your Genos registration .. . . . that way, when you press the registration it will automatically bring up the PDF on your computer (it also works the other way around . . . when bringing up the PDF, it brings up the Genos registration).

Again, not sure . . .  but just to give you more alternatives . . .

Hi Paul,
thank you for your answer.
the Shuttle PC is indeed a computer, I could also play the MP3 files over it. So far I have a normal 10 inch TFT over the Genos to a Spider Keyboard Stand with a Vesa mount.
But if I could use the Shuttle PC as a PC ... and as an external monitor for the Genos, that would be nice. And then I need only 1 external device. The shuttle could serve as a PC system for playing the CDG files or whatever, and as an external monitor for the Genos.
But because the shuttle only has USB 2.0, I suspect it will not work with the Elgato USB 3.0 adapter.
And you are right - it is too expensive and time-consuming to try out.

Greetings
Siggi
