Are Musescore files compatible with the ipad pro.

Musescore files are normally saved in MuseScore's proprietary format with the extension ".mscz". These files can't be read by an iPad.

There is however an 'Export' option within Musescore which allows you to save the file as a PDF and you can them import that PDF to your iPad and view it through any PDF viewing program.

There are a number of dedicated music PDF readers available for the iPad which can 'manage' your music collection for you. I use ForScore which doesn't have all the bells and whistles but is quite cheap and perfectly suited for my needs.

Hi Alan,

there is an iOS App of MuseScore: :)

https://musescore.com/apps

https://itunes.apple.com/app/apple-store/id835731296?mt=8

.mscz files can be opened with this App, e. g. from email, Dropbox etc.

Best regards,
Chris

Alan,
Another option, is to use an app called Musicnotes which allows you to upload all your own PDF sheet music thru iTunes under Shared Apps. This is free and it works great. They also have a store in the app so you can purchase any sheet music you want as well. It is automatically uploaded to your iPad. I have it on two iPads and my iPhone and all devices stay in sync for purchased items but you must upload your own PDF's on each device, if you want the same music on all devices.

Hope this helps,

Rick D.

Hi everyone.
Thanks to you all for your replies.
At this time i'm looking at my options before buying an ipad to see what works with what & the compatability of software

Regards
Alan.

i initially thought you already had the ipad and software.

If you have not purchased and you are considering alternatives, you might want to consider the software SongBook+ for iPad.

A lot of people on this forum use it connected to the keyboard.  It can bring up your PDF's and automatically bring up the corresponding registration on the keyboard (or the other way around depending on keyboard model).    If you are interested there are a lot of posts on this forum related to SongBook+ or you can ask here.

Greetings.

Hi Al.
Thanks for the reply.   I already use Musescore from time to time hense my original question.

At this point i don't intend to operate the keyboard from the ipad & vice versa, but will keep this option in mind.

I've read most of the posts on this subject & do appreciate the information being made available freely by the members.

If you get an iPad and decide to use ForScore, you can not only load up individual PDFs but also a fake book if you have the appropriate index.

I've spent a bit of time recently indexing various fake books and now have over 40 installed in my iPad.

Now when I search for a particular song in ForScore, it shows all instances of the song. Some fake books are better than others, so I just have a look at each and play whichever one I think is best.

Hi Chris.
Do you have to buy the fake books or are they free to download.

They are available on this forum, under the heading Digital Fake Books.
