Hi Toril.

That's great to hear that your wait is nearly over.

I hope you get it back very soon and you won't have to give your friend a virtual hug but can do it in real time.

You can fall in love with it all over again.

I can't wait to hear some the music you make together.

Cheers

Toril S

Thanks, Frankia!
Yes, I look forward to getting it back :)

I have just seen this thread... Well, I work all day fixing electronic equipments and, being careful, owner can't find any external trace of my work. I trust the Yamaha service is up to par and you will get back a virtually new keyboard  :)

If I had seen this thread from the beginning, I would have bet correctly that the problem was at the sound amplifier. What happened was, that the amplifier for some reason got fried, so some electric current was passing at the speakers at the moment you tried to start it.

This may happened by hardware failure, which is not so common. The most common way that an amplifier dies, is when you use the internal speakers at very high volume or at the maximum that the amplifier can produce. This can damage the speakers and then if the speaker's coil get a short circuit, then the next part that it will be damaged will be the sound amplifier. Also some times this can happen if you plug and unplug some external devices from the audio input or output sockets and you forget to put the master volume at zero, so you hear some fast scratch crackling noises.I guess at the Yamaha center they have checked the speakers too.

Anyway, don't worry, this is a common fault at car stereo and home hifi devices and it is fully repairable, so afterwards the device becomes as before.
Just take care about the above situations and you will be fine.Let's wish from now and on, to enjoy your cute s970 keyboard without problems for many many years as with your old one.  :)

Toril S

Thanks Arvacon. I have been very careful with it, but I will be even more careful not to crank up the volume of the speakers!

Hi Toril,

I hope you will receive your S970 back soon.
Maybe you had just that one with a bad transistor or chip
built on a monday  ;).

Enjoy it again!

Toril S

Thanks Ernie! I am still waiting, but making music on my 2100. I am running out of floppy disks😀

If I was Yamaha's service manager, I would send you a new PSR-S975..  ::)

That would be the day, Arvacon! Today I called my store, and they called the repair shop. They still have my keyboard there, but the person who repaired it was not at work today. Must be a reason why they still are "sitting on it." Maybe they have to run some more tests? I don't know. But this means that I face another weekend, and many days to come without my dear S970. I understand the musicians who have backup keyboards, seems wise. But, being only a hobby musician with an occasional gig, I cant justify purchasing another expensive keyboard. But I have my trusted PSR 2100, so I am not totally without! I have a gig in October, and hope I get my S970 before then. If not, I have to make do with what I have. That's life :)

No Sign of my S970. Did I dream that I had it? Is it maybe still the year 2003? The only good thing about that is that then I am 15 years younger then I believe myself to be!😀

Yes, I would like to have 15 years off my age as well - that would be a good thing!

Hi Toril,

I am sorry that you still haven't got your S970 back. Since it is still under warranty and it has been in the repair shop for one month and a half now, aren't you entitled to some king of compensation either form the shop or from Yamaha? They could maybe give you a new unit or a refund if the S970 is definitely superseded by the S975.

Regards,

Vinciane

You're really haven't got your S970 back, yet?
What is wrong with Yamaha's service?
Maybe you must claim for a replacement (or refund) due all this time you waiting for your instr repair.
I hope that you get it soon back on duty!

It came today, with a big hole in it! I was so happy when the store sent a massage that it was there and I could come and get it. In the taxi I got a bad feeling, so I asked to see the keyboard before taking it with me. There was a big hole in one corner!! Both the upper and lower housing is broken! Had to go home without my keyboard, while the store will sort the matter out. It will all take time. I am really depressed now! Please wake me up from this nightmare!

Don't be depressed, now is the moment to demand from that store about a brand new s970 or s975 if they don't find s970! Don't accept any other repair, it was their fault.
Now is the time to speak! Don't let this chance to go!
This is a good chance, catch it!

Bruce Breen

I agree with Arvacon!
They need to reimburse you with a new keyboard!

Good luck!

Hello Toril, I suggest you take legal action against the repair shop, and claim damages caused to your S970. It really can not be called repair shop, but rather destruction. because apart from damaging your keyboard, you are killed by the illusions of continuing to make good music. I sincerely hope that they give you a new keyboard (S970 or S975) is the least they can do for you.   a bear hug.     Hans

Enough is surely enough.

Get a lawyer to write a letter to them, demanding a brand new replacement keyboard within 14 days and threatening court action if they don't comply. I'm sure you'd easily win a court action but they should be frightened by the idea and it would never get to court.
It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

At my country, this action would cost more than to buy a new keyboard.
But there is always the option of the non profit organizations that fight for the customer's rights, so I would use this service instead, as I have done this once and they won my case, without pay a cent.
I admire your patience.. :)

Hello friends! Update: New parts were ordered for my keyboard the 3. of October, and they have not arrived yet. Yes, I know that there is some distance between Japan and Norway, but we have planes! It may be that they will have to make some parts, both the upper and lower casing was damaged, so I guess I will get the keyboard beck with a new hull. At the 7. of November it will be 3 months since I was able to play my wonderful S970. You friends have been great, thanks for all the support :)
