Hi all.
I recorded my first song to a USB memory stick on the S950 recently and then tried to play it on my PC.
It states it is recorded as a MIDI file in properties but will not play back on the PC.
Could anyone help as to what do I have to do to get it to play back?

You need a midiplayer like VanBasco (free downloading). But it will only sound like on your keyboard when you play it VIA your connected keyboard. As a PC does not have more than the 127 standard GM midi-voices, it will sound very meager. If you recorded it as WAV or MP3 it will sound OK.

Hi Bob,
Midi songs/files should play to your pc with Windows Media Player if you are using windows.
But if you have a problem you could use thes 2 programs which can play the midis that were made on a Yamaha keyboard better than any other software.

If you want to convert the midi song to any other format like mp3 first you have to use the onboard Audio Player on your psr, first convert the .mid to .wav and then it will play to your pc exactly as it sounds on your keyboard.
After you can convert the .wav file to .mp3 file if you wish on your pc.

1.Press the "Song" button then the "Select" button and select your midi song.
2.Press Usb Audio player and choose "Rec" on your screen.
3.Choose "Play" on your screen and immediately press the "Play" button to hear you midi song.
4.When the midi song is finished immediately choose the "stop" button on your screen.
5.Now you have an "Audio_001.wav" file on your usb stick.

If you get an error message "Devise is busy" try again.

Haven't found a video in English about this function.I hope this one helps.

Thanks Dick & Panos

That's a great help.
Yes I have windows & usually midi files play ok on windows media player.
The song file I recorded is recognised and is playing but there is no sound.
I will download Jososoft and try that but I will also convert it to a wave file

Thanks again  :)

Hello again Panos
I tried your suggestion but every time (about 10 times) I got the error message you mentioned.
I got round it by just playing the keyboard and recording directly on to the audio player.
That worked fine.
But thanks again for your help.

To play a midi file on ANY device needs a CODEC (a piece of software that tells the PC how to play the file) to act as an interface for the player you use.
MX player, VLC Player, and IrfanView (with add-on pack installed) will all play midi.
Most smartphones play midi, too.
You can install a dedicated midi codec (driver)
AVOID Codec packs .. they can mess up Windows.
😊  I started out with nothing .. and I've got most of it left!  😊
