Experienced Genos & Tyros users
Can anyone who has used MOXF8 and Genos tell me how similar/different their sounds are for example do they have same Arp & sounds? Because I have MOXF8 but is it worth me selling it to get Genos based on sounds alone?
I have created a Sound & ARP Clips on my MOXF so kindly could anyone who has Genos and Tyros listen to this, compare this demo to Genos and Tyros sounds and give me their opinion on how similar/different these sounds are? https://soundcloud.com/sunny7kay/suggestion
Basically my bottom line is that if the sounds has a minor 19/20 difference then I don't want to spend a lot more money  for the same sort of sounds its only worth it if there is a major difference that's why I am asking for your honest opinions!
Actually I just sold my PA3X and guys using that I can honestly say that in my experience Yamaha have the bests sound no one comes close.

I can't answer your question, but I did enjoy listening to your clips ... I'd be interested to know if Genos can sound like this.

Hi Grover --

I play both a Genos and an MOX6. (No "F", so it's back one generation.) The MOX6 is my main gig instrument.

The Genos sounds are on par or beyond the Montage. The Montage one-upped the Motif XF, so I would expect the Genos to be (somewhat) superior to the MOXF. The SuperArticulation 2 voices are a major increment above Montage, MOXF and Motif XF.

That said, I will never trade or sell my MOX, unless Yamaha release a replacement for the MOXF that builds on the MO family. The MOX has deep voice editing and I often try ideas on the MOX or study the way Yamaha have programmed a voice on the MOX. Then, I'll try to make something similar on the Genos (or my older PSR-S950).

Arpeggio-wise, the MOX is also a great resource. Ironically, the jazz, pop and rock arpeggios (phrases) were lifted from earlier PSR/Tyros models. The Yamaha programmers did a terrific job making new, stripped down performances for the Motif/MOX. I think that's why people were crying for Yamaha to add XF compatibility to Montage -- now available in Montage v2.0.

BTW, I translated a bunch of MOX performances to PSR styles:

Just some thoughts -- pj

Thanks for very detailed reply, I have decided that I will keep both.
As you know Yamaha has a lot of expansion sounds, so I would like to know are any of the Genos built in sounds the same as any of the expansion sounds,
because if I buy the expansion sounds so I don't want to end up with lots of doubles/repeated sounds. So how can I find this out?

Hi Grover --

There has been a little discussion in the Genos Voices part of the forum. That's a good place to ask about overlap, i.e., expansion vs. factory preset.

A few users determined that the alto and baritone sax expansion voices are already in the Genos.

I have the S970 Church Organ pack -- which does load and play on Genos -- and the Female Vocal pack. The Female Vocal pack does not overlap. There is some overlap between Church Organ and the preset classical organs. But, the Church Organ pack has several unique voices, so I keep it loaded and use it.

Hope this helps -- pj

Grover,

It's my opinion that you would miss those 7,000 arps in the MOXF.  The Genos has about 200.  BTW... you can play the Motif Arps on the Genos using the Genos Voices by creating a special MIDI configuration.  I do this quite often with my Motif Rack XS and the S970.  I can even record the Arps to the on-board sequencer on the S970.

It is also possible to create Multi Pads using the Motif Performances. This requires a different custom MIDI configuration.  The idea here is to record the 4 arps generated by the Motif and convert them into Multi Pads.
