Hello friends. I am at the S970 making melodies, using the MIDI recorder. When I tried to save my latest song, I got a message saying there is no more space in the drive! That can't be! i have only 43 songs there, and this keyboard has a large menory!
In addition to that I have my "Gigdisk" and some styles. I thought this keyboard was a mansion, not a one room apartment!
Why do I want to have so much stuff on the keyboard? It is convenient, you can forget to bring a USB stick to a gig, but you hardly forget your keyboard :) Can I do something to get more space, or have I banged my head on the roof?

You need to tell us what "the drive" is that you're using. User? USBx?

By songs, do you mean song (midi) files, or Audio (WAV) files? If it's WAV files, I can easily see you running out of room. If you're playing them back only on your keyboard, then switch to midi files.

If you're storing files on the User drive, there is nothing you can do to get more space. That's what USB sticks are for.

Expansion Packs also use a lot of memory Toril.
You could buy a second usb stick as back up and put it with your keys.
So you can always have it with you.
Something like that one.

I think you don't have a lot of memory on the PSR S970.
Memory is segmented into different parts and each part has its own memory limit

As Panos answered  it's better to store everything to USB stick

Thanks, Fred and Panos. By "drive" I mean user drive. And it is MIDI songs. They are small, so I really don't see why the user drive is full already. On my PSR 2100 I could only save 7 songs on the keyboard, but I believed the new models had a lot more space. USB stick on the key ring is a good idea :)

Thanks ob7914 :) I have 43 songs on the user drive, so I shouldn't complain. Just need some new routines. Remove songs that are finished, keep on the keyboards those I still work with. And have backup copies of everything. You are rignt, the memory is segemented, so I guess I used up the space allowed for songs :)

Hi Toril, just 13Mb on the User drive for the styles, the midi's, the registrations, the voices and the Pads you've put on this User area! So just copy all the files on the USB Stick and then delete all you've on the User drive except what you want to keep! All the best Patrick

Toril S

Thanks, Patrick :) Ooops! Then I need to tidy up! I have quite a number of styles, plus 43 songs. Hereafter, I will keep the styles I use the most and the songs I am still working with. Afraid of forgetting USB stick when out gigging, so it was convenient to just put it all on the keyboard. I still have space for my "gigdisk. "

Many folks use the User drive only as a temporary work area while something is being developed and tested.  As soon as you have something ready for use then copy it to a USB drive for permanent storage and delete it from the User drive to release that space for later use.  The micro-style USB drives are ideal since they can be kept installed in the keyboard with little danger of being damaged and you will probably never need more than 16GB of storage. Of course, you must always have at least one backup USB drive and keep it up to date.  Two would be even better, they are not expensive and you don't want to risk losing hundreds or thousands of hours of work just to save a few dollars.

In order to minimize wear and tear on the USB port, and to make access to the USB drive more convenient, you might want to use a USB extension cable so you don't have to keep reaching around to the back of the keyboard:

Hello J. It turns out that I already have a micro usb stick that fits perfectly. I also have an extensin cable that I use. G.Thanks for good advice☺
