When will the talking end, and the playing begin?

From all the remarks and technical jargon that's been posted so far, one could write 50 books by now, with each book containing no less than 500 pages.

It would be nice, for a change, to have people play the instrument, record the song, and posting their work in the Members song section.
Every musician needs an audience.

We have only heard from hearsay, that Genos is capable of this, and capable of that.
But these capabilities have not yet been demonstrated.

It is true that a few members have posted their Genos work. But that's the whole problem, too few have done so.
For every member who has posted a song, there are another 50 who are just talking.

I have installed fibre optic cable TV here at home. My wife has yet to watch a programme or movie.

She just Zaps from one channel to another all day, every day, for over a year now.
Giving each channel about 5 seconds. It drives me crazy.

What's the point of spending a huge amount of money on an instrument, then spend day after day just talking about it, instead of producing some actual work?

Best Regards,
Pianoman.

I agree 100 percent, Abby. I have only heard about a half dozen non-demo performances with the Genos, but I can truthfully say they sounded very, very good, despite the fact they were not professionally recorded. If I had a little longer to live, or sell my sailing yacht this winter, there would be a Genos in my office and you would hear lots of songs from this old man.

All the best,

Hi

Some buy a new big car to cruise around in it.
Others love to fine-tune the engine or the suspension; to wash and polish it; or to install optional equipment.
"Chacun son gout" as the French say.  ;) ;)

Thanks for the responses guys.
Jørgen I  don't dispute what you say, but sooner or later the owner will have to drive the blinking car.

Thanks Gary, and by the way, I've sent you a  PM.

I don't doubt that for a minute Gary.
You would be thrashing the life out of your Genos if you had it right now.

Deane has posted at least 20 Genos Mp3 songs, as well as a few others.
The rest of us are posting either PSR or Tyros Mp3 songs.

I've heard about amazing Saxophones and other voices, it would be nice to hear these things played in actual songs that performers usually play.

Not a day goes by without someone mentioning the amazing Revo drums for example.
How about letting the drums run from style to style, including variations,  breaks, and drum rolls.

Just the drums. Let them run for as many minutes as possible, with as many styles as possible, but without playing or using accompaniment, and then post them as an Mp3 file.

Just the drums Sir, and nothing but the drums.

Pianoman.

"When will the Talking End and the Playing Begin?"

Sounds like a good title for a song   ;) ;)

It does indeed. Maybe i should make one ;)

This is my last recording on my psr.
Maybe this remix could use some revo...arabian drums  :D

I hope i did n't totally kill the most beautifull song of Loreena McKennitt,
but I am not pianoman ;D

Some buy the cars and put them in a garage, never driving it afraid to get a scratch on it. But they do brag about everything they stalled there on any occasion they get ;)

Pianoman, I really hope that in the next few days that good news comes in... Can't wait to hear that Genos cfx or the new alto sax or flugelhorn go crazy on one of your brilliant improvisations while beating the uhh revo out of those drums :D

kind regards,
Peter

I think the unusually timed hype and premature release of the Genos, combined with it's new Revo drums etc...have created in itself, more talk and less playing.

The whole situation is exaggerated by the fact that there are still only a scant handful of lucky people out there who actually have one of these mysterious keyboards. When only a few have the Genos, it follows there will be more talk and less music. Give Yamaha six months to flood the market with Genos keyboards, and all this speculative crapola will revert to solid contributions about "how do I do this or that" versus small and meaningless talk. Only then, will things be back to normal.

six more month's? Now where the heck did I leave my hibernation gadget.....

Peter, you need to learn to relax and smell the roses. Hammer (Dean Peters) has already posted dozens of Genos songs, and I suspect that in the next few weeks, Pianoman will be posting a bunch of really great videos of him performing. While you wait, prop up your feet, pour a tall glass of Jim Bean Honey Bourbon over ice and enjoy some of the music already posted on this forum. Lots of really great players here - I just wish I were one of them. ;)

All the best,

Thanks pianoman for the smile on my face :-)

There are a lot playing and not reading and writing....  some will make videos but a lot just play!

They switch genos on, and they play.
They use just the function that was made over 30 years ago.
Select style than the new function ots (20 years ago)

One thing to do is split point and fingering...

And ... dammm dammm dammm the music starts and they listen to the maybe best styleaccompaniement and sounds of a keyboard  on earth.
Thanks reinhold for inventing AI fingering!

I know Gary and I would wish that too,

Besides that and even if you not level up to those two, you still beat me by miles with your posted renditions :)

Btw: After you mentioning Dean's Genos uploads in an earlier reply last evening I started to adventure over to the performer's page. Taking my AKG headphones and listened to all of Dean's  Genos recordings and after that his older recordings on his performer page. Posted a PM to thank him and already got a reply from Dean showing appreciating. I think that's the way this forum should work all the time. And perhaps it can if some of us (me included) learn that you don't have to be mister or misses perfect in order to learn, play and send in the goodies.

6:15 am here and almost skipped the night. Turning in now for a few hours. Hope you do better and turn in on time :)

regards,
Peter

Thank you Lee.
This may be the best explanation I have heard so far.

Alan has posted an Mp3 demo of Revo drums, switching from style to style, with variations and drum rolls and the whole shebang of different drum kits.

It was informative and the Revo drums sounded great through my headphones.
I have thanked him for his efforts and thank him again right here and now.

I may be asking too much of some Genos owners.
Some may even say, "hey, you want to hear a Genos, get your own."
And they would be right.

There's no Genos here to test.
For some reason, the dealers do not find it worth their time or effort to ship one over.
No customers, except me and a few home users perhaps.

I do not believe anything they say anymore. It was supposed to be here a month ago already.
If they were to tell me that I'm black (which I am) I would not believe them either, if it came from their mouths.

Instruments are meant to be played.
What better satisfaction is there, than to master a song on your new keyboard, record it, and post it here?
For others to hear both the player and the instrument shine?

I will get my Genos sooner, rather than later, as I may be travelling to the mainland anytime now.
I will flog the living daylights out of the d... thing, and post the results here.

Best Regards,
Pianoman.

Just listened and loved it.
I wrote my comments on the song page itself, but I loved the song with this particular Sax.
The Crusaders is one thing I would contemplate playing, with a Sax like this.
And then there was Tower Of Power, i could go on and on with my list.

Best Regards,
Abby.

Crusaders? TOP? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!  ;D

Hmmm, faux Wayne Henderson with the SA2 trombone?  8)

All the best -- pj

Pianoman

Hello again PJ.

I haven't looked back at this thread for quite a while.

I've been quite busy posting songs on the other page, Songs By Forum Members.

Yes, The Crusaders. There's only Stix Hooper, Larry Carlton, and Hubert Laws left.
The others have, sadly, passed away.

Hubert Laws was my role model when I was playing the flute.

Some Wilton Felder on the new SA2 Saxes and Wayne Henderson on that SA2 Trombone.

Now that would be something to look forward to.

Best Regards,
Abby.

Pianoman

Just another thing I wanted to mention.

If you look at the Forum  section of Songs Played By Members, you will find that there are songs being played and posted almost every hour.

There's no complicated jargon, analyses, complaints, computer compatibility talk, DAW Software discussions.

Enquiries about Genos drinking and driving, Genos sleepwalking, questions about what the word Genos means.

Followed by other questions that question the first questioner, whether the name is from ancient Greek.

Bringing in answers from Greek experts, who agree with or dispute the answer given by the second responder,

who was responding to the first responder, who actually was responding to a question by the questioner.

And not to an emergency that may or may not have taken place in the neighbourhood or nearby suburbs.

While at the same time questioning whether expectations have been met,
and whether Genos is single or a three time divorcee, or maybe a secret drinker.

Pop into the Members song section and post or listen to some good music being posted there.

We all know that music is a great stress reliever.

Best Regards,
Pianoman.

Pianoman

Hello Again Everyone.

I seem to have caught some flak on another thread where i made similar comments.

This post was meant as a humorous take on the on the things I have been reading over the last couple of months.

It has never been, nor will it ever be, an intention on my part, to offend anyone here in any way.

I am sure that some of you will see the attemped humour in this.
It is perhaps clumsy humour, but that's what it is, just humour.

A bit of laughter is one of the best tonics to be found anywhere.

It is definitely not an attempt to offend anyone here.

Regarding it as such would be doing a great disservice to the amicability and camarederie that has always existed here.

Best Regards,
Pianoman.
