Hi all,

I've downloaded a style from other forum but its volume is too loud. I've used MixMaster adjusting overall volume and it played just fine on my s970, except the sound of 4 OTS still loud.

Is it possible to lower the OTS volume in Mixmaster?

Thank you for your help.

Ted:

MixMaster does not edit the OTS section of a style.

Consider using: http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/otseditor/index.htm

Hi Michael and Jorgen,

Thank you for quick responses. I will try the later one. You're wonderful persons and your programs are very convenient and helpful.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Ted,

Here's one more suggestion.  Instead of using a computer to do this, just change it on the keyboard!

It is really simple to do this, and it offers the advantage that you get to hear any changes that you make in real time as you make them, rather than having to 'guess' what changes are needed!

The OTS section of a style is separate to the main MIDI part and can be changed and saved without needing to use Style Creator.

To modify the OTS in this way:

1]  Select/Load the style.

2]  Press OTS1 - this will set up the keyboard with all the OTS parameters as they currently are in the OTS1 button.

3]  Make your changes to R & L voices, including levels and any other things that you want to change for your revised OTS1.  You can change the levels from the BALANCE window that appears by default at the bottom of the MAIN screen, or from the MIXING CONSOLE (PANEL) 'VOL/VOICE' page.  You can play the style while you make the changes to help you get the balance right, but at this stage do not do anything that would change the OTS button that is active!

4]  When you are happy with the revised 'mix', simply save it back to OTS1 by first pressing the [MEMORY] button in the REGISTRATION MEMORY section.  Although the REGISTRATION MEMORY CONTENTS display will appear, you can ignore this since the On/Off settings in this display do not affect the One Touch Setting function.

5]  Now with the REGISTRATION MEMORY CONTENTS display open,  press the OTS button to which you wish to memorize your revised settings (in this case OTS1) to actually save your settings into that OTS memory - the button will flash a couple of time indicating that data is being written to it.   Note that this will only overwrite the OTS settings for that particular button for the version of the style that is loaded in the keyboard.  The previous version of the style on 'disk' will not be changed until you actually save the style with the same name in the same drive/folder!

6]  You will be prompted to save the style with it's revised OTS settings.  You can save at this point if you like, but if you want to also change the setups in one or more other OTS buttons, you may as well change these too before you save.  If you decide not to save at this point, just press the 'No' (G button).

7]  Now change the settings in the next OTS button that you want to modify, by first pressing the relevant OTS button that you want to change. This will load the current settings in that button to the keyboard.

8]  Repeat the procedure from 3] for any this and any other OTS memories that you want to change.

9] After you have changed the final OTS memory, save the style (with the revised OTS section) when prompted, by pressing 'Yes' (F button).  If you don't save the style at this point, any changes that you have made to the OTS will be lost if you select a different style or turn off the power!

The procedure is much simpler than it looks from the above, and although I love the fact that thanks to the generous efforts of Michael B., Jørgen S., Murray B. and others, we are able to manage the files on our keyboards, in spite of Yamaha's apparent indifference to provide such functionality, or even provide any useful information to help others do this!  However I believe that simple changes such as OTS are much better done on the keyboard.

Why not try both ways and see which works best for you?

Hi Ian,

I've seen lots of your response to other members on different subjects and each of them looks like a mini manual with clear step-by-step instructions. This one is no exception.
Thank you very much.

Merry Christmas to all.
