What is the correct or close to correct sound of the Organ used in the song "Runaway" by Del Shannon.

If you could attach any style with the SOUND in one of the OTS and I will copy it into the custom style I an working on.

Thanks
Drake

Drake, it actually wasn't an organ, it was a prototype machine called a Musitron.

Probably a Farfisa would be close.  Seems as if that was what I used on the Yamaha.

Hi Don,

I am not seeing a "Farfisa" on my S950. I did check in the Legacy and GM&XG and GM2 synth folders too.

So I am still in need of a close match if possible.

Hi Drake,

I use one of the four '60'sComboOrgans' layered with a bit of 'Piccolo' for this part, which are both presets on my Tyros4 .

The organs don't seem to be available on the S950, but I have attached the '.CLV' voice set file which you can try to see if it picks up any wave samples from the S950's wave ROM.  I can't add a '.CLV' file as an attachment so I have 'zipped' it.

I noticed that there is a voice in the GM2 category of the S950 called 'It60'sOrgan' (Italian 60's Organ I presume).   :-\

Farfisa were an Italian company making organs in the 60's but there were others.  However it might be worth a listen!  It is also on my T4, but is different to the voice combination that I actually use.  However you can modify it's voice set, perhaps to add a little vibrato if you think that is better.

I would that you should be able to coax a suitably 'cheesy' :D sound for this part from your S950, even if it is not 100% authentic.

Hi Drake,
I play this song on my S950.
I use 60'sRock&Roll (in R&B) for the style, and use the OTS #3 voice setting, add the R2 voice, and use the modulation wheel to suit.
Also, as an option for the R2 voice, I sometimes use "Dancechords" from page 6 of the synth voices.
Finally, I turn the left voice on and select the Rotor Organ.

Hello Ian and Bruce

I have taken both ideas and combined them into on OTS setting. Each was better than what I had been using. My ears just aren't keen on the sound of a synthesizer or organ like they are for a guitar sound.

Ian,

I saved the "60'sCombo4" file to my USB drive and then linked my OTS to it. My S950 then showed a Blank instrument in the slot with the 8 dashes BUT the keyboard did link to a sound somewhere with in my keyboard. I have noticed this sort of thing going on when working with T5 and Genos styles. Most recently while working up the Genos Country styles. The style would be playing a Guitar sound but did not recognized what the actual guitar sound was in the display. I could tell from the sound of the guitar which one it was and then linked to it. But in the case of this "60'sCombo4" sound I have no idea what it is and so the 8 Dashes showing in the OTS slot is just fine .

Bruce,

I combined your suggested Organ Flutes with the "60'sCombo4" and added some reverb to it. Then I added the Rotor Organ to the left hand as a very faint backing sound.

I also add the "Dancechords" sound to my Main that has the Guitar lead sound I use. I can always flip it on if I need to do an extra third lead should the song need to be extended.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions.

Drake

My problem with that song is really not the lead sound, but the falsetto needed to sing it!  :)

Great idea Drake, I can use a vocal harmonizer preset to do the high stuff, the way Elvis used his live girls.  (Well, not EXACTLY like he used live girls, I'm past all that!  :) )  I'm not sure why I didn't think of that, because I do it on "Bread and Butter".
By the way, did you hear Elvis say "play it James"?  James Burton is a good friend of mine and he used to drop by and sit in with me for hours at a time.  I have much of it recorded, but would never post it, out of respect for him.  I used to keep a guitar in the office that no one every touched except when he came by.  He is spending a lot of time in Europe these days, still going strong and playing as well as ever.   Seems that when I see him these days, it's usually at a funeral for other old friends!  James just loves to play and seems to get as much enjoyment out of jamming with local guys as he does working in front of thousands of people.  I have certainly learned a lot from him!
Sorry for getting off topic.  Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and that Santa brings you a new Genos!
