Hello Everyone,.

I want to thank everyone here for your advice, compliments, and encouragements.

It is one of the reasons that I love this forum.
There is always someone who will take his or her precious time out of their busy day to help another.

I am writing on my phone, so I would have to constantly scroll up and down to be able to thank everybody individually by name.

Suffice it to say that I have read all your advice and compliments and encouragements and I am deeply grateful.

I will be testing a Genos next week and will keep you posted.

I find the T5 an interesting option as well, but it will probably be more of the same.
Not technologically, but structurally.

The fact that Yamaha created such a technologically advanced instrument, and then put tiny and slippery keys on it,
has baffled me from day one, and will continue to do so.

That is one of the many reasons why I love, and could never give up my Stage Piano.
It restores a bit of sanity to the proceedings.

All the technology notwithstanding, the most important connection between man and machine is the keys.
Tiny and slippery keys make it very hard to play fast passages.

My Tyros has broken buttons that are hard to repair by myself. And more will keep breaking,  because many of the 8 buttons under the screen are shaky already.

This is the only reason that I'm thinking of getting a new keyboard. Otherwise I would keep the T3 for another 5 years.

There is no one here willing or qualified to repair these buttons. They're all on and under the screen.
The screen would have to be removed from the keyboard first, and then taken apart.

It's not as easy as it sounds. Believe me, I have tried, manual in hand, and failed.

It was too risky, and if I messed up, I could have ended up with a screen displaying only green lines.

I tried to upload 5 photos of the broken buttons but they kept being rejected. I may have to upload them one at a time.

I will have to send my keyboard to Yamaha Spain for repairs, but ask first if they are still willing to repair a T3.
And then remain keyboard-less for God knows how long.

Best Regards,
Pianoman.

Just get a Genos.  You will never regret it.  You MIGHT regret not getting one.  :)

Hello Everyone,

This video is from a summer outdoor barbecue party with friends here in Ibiza.
We do this once every year.

A group of 75 people come all the way from Holland just for this Barbecue and of course to the fun that Ibiza has to offer. They've become good friends of mine now, and everything is very casual and laid back here.

Just good friends, simple fun, and plenty of Argentinian Steaks and Spanish wine.

Here I'm playing solo guitar on my T3 for a few seconds..
It was just beginning to get dark so you can't see me very well.
It is something we black musicians always worry about when playing in semi darkness.

Please just enjoy the video and don't take me or the video too seriously.
I never take myself too seriously anyway.

Best Regards,
Pianoman.

PS: The video size is small, so you may have to play it on full screen.

hi Pianoman what is the Name of the club you are in i might come Next year  and give you a song ive put 2 songs in the Chrismas performance section today im like you we sing and play the same songs :)

Pianoman

Hi Tyrosman.

I don't play in a club. I work for hotel chains both here and in the south of Spain.

Here I play in 5 hotels per week. They shuffle the order of the hotels every season.
But it's basically always the same hotels, just in a different order every time.

I also do private parties whenever time allows. Like with the Dutch guys above.

On the mainland it's different. I play in the same hotel 5 nights a week as s resident musician.

I've had a heavy summer, working 28 days a month.
So I won't be working again till mid January.

At the moment I'm trying to sell one of my Kidneys to pay for the Genos, if i like what I hear.
I'll be putting Ads in the papers and the Internet, saying "Need to buy keyboard, Kidney for sale, in good working condition."

I'm also spending some quality time with my family before I have to rush off again.

In the summer I only come home to eat, sleep, then I rush out to set up my gear in the next hotel and perform, so my family don't see me much in the summer.

BTW:  The temporary video location had expired. The video is now on my permanent YouTube channel, along with my other videos.

Hello Don,

Thank you for your advice.
I am also intrigued by the Korg PA4X.
I understand that you perform with one.
If so, since you have both the Genos and Korg,
you may be the only one here who might be in the best positon to give a fair opinion
on both these instruments.

Assuming that you are presently using them side by side.

Best Regards,
Pianoman.

Keep in mind that both you and Don Mason are outstanding entertainers, which is the most important aspect of your performances. The keyboard is only secondary, and both of you would sound great with either the Korg PA4X or Genos. Of course you both sound great right now, so you may be able to salvage that kidney from being harvested and implanted. ;)

Good luck,

I don't have a Genos, only the PA4X.  My most recent Yamaha is PSR S970.  I dearly love the Korg.  It has all the sounds I need, even though that dreamy new Pedal Steel Guitar on the Genos is tempting.
The main thing I love about the Korg is the size, weight and wonderful operating features.  It has many programmable sliders, buttons, etc., the great Chord Sequencer, and the Songbook is great.  The Vocal Harmonizer is by T.C. Helicon and is truly outstanding.  The midi-to-style converter works surprisingly well also.  If you start with a good midi file, in 10 seconds or so you can have a good style!
It does have great guitars, saxes, organs and pianos and the drums are very realistic.  The guitars, and other sounds, as a rule are not as "prepared" as they are on Yamaha, but they are deeply editable and it's easy to set them the way you like.  Korg has DNC voices, which work similarly to Yamaha's SA voices.  I have become a fan of them.  I often find that some of the Yamaha voices do too many things automatically and that I'm not in control of them.  I just read there may be a way to disable some of that though.
You would probably enjoy and benefit from the KAOSS feature that appeared with the latest free Korg update.  Check it out on YouTube.  It's not something I use much, but is great with more modern music.
There would be a learning curve, but no worse that if you were going from Korg to Yamaha and having to learn that operating system.
Another great feature is the EC5 foot pedal, allowing five assignments, plus another single programmable foot switch, and dedicated volume and sustain pedals.   The EC5 is not expensive, but well built and light in weight.
The Genos has three pedal inputs, but they are all three programmable, so that would certainly suffice for me in that category.  I only have two feet so more than three pedals is too much for me to fully utilize anyway.
The new Revo drums seem to be finally at a professional level!  About time!  :)
One drawback on the S970 is that the audio drums, in most cases, sound so good that it makes the midi drums sound worse.  Not so with the Genos, which has made the audio drums not necessary, at least to Yamaha's way of thinking, and mine as well.
I will certainly audition the Genos after the first of the year, but I don't expect it to replace my Korg.  If I win the lottery, I would have both.  :)  But I never buy a ticket so that may not happen!
I didn't know you were considering the Korg.  If you are really busy and don't have some free time to learn the Korg OS, you may be better served to stay with Yamaha, and reward yourself with the Genos!  Just my opinion of course.  There's not really a wrong choice, but one of the other may suit you better.  The Korg is certainly less expensive, if that is a concern, but money is well spent if it improves the tools of your trade!

But why should top entertainers like Pianoman and DonM who already have a concept that works well and people love, change anything in the well working setup?
Not only for the change of equipment itself, I assume it's not needed for the shows, (public will probably never notice), then it most be your for personal joy and challenges.
As many already said in countless posts: It's not the keyboard, it's the player who makes the difference.
Never change a winning team. ;)

Hi Pianoman,

As previously stated, you are an extremely talented musician and technical guru. I replied to one of your threads yesterday which I can no longer find.  It concerned the state of your keyboard and how you look after it.

I am not concerned about the state of your keyboard because basically it is none of my business and you use it primarily as a work tool.

However, I noticed that you said that some of the electronic stuff could be seen under the broken Exit button. That bit did concern me because I fear for your own safety.

Please make sure that you are not exposing yourself to the risk of electric shock. At least make sure of that. I know that you put yourself and family as your priority. We appreciate you and whatever keyboard you play for us in whatever condition it's in as long as it's safe for you to play.

Should you eventually buy a Genos, I wish you many happy hours and much enjoyment playing it as with your present board.

Kindest regards

Trevor (MINKYCATS)

Hello again Trevor.

The thread is still there. I just renamed it to "Pianoman - Dire Straits medley  on 3T.".
I removed the reference to my Mama out of the thread.
I Just love my Mama too much man.
Can't stop mentioning her wherever I go.
I responded and thanked  you for your advice, saying I'll be careful and that I don't use the button anymore because it doesn't work.

PS: I've  also put up a new thread called "Pianoman - I Want To Break Free - and Radio Gaga on T3.

Many thanks again.

Best Regards,
Pianoman.

Hey Pianoman,

You are great on a T3 ... you don't need to sell your body parts to stay employed, just a keyboard that works and not on the verge of braking down on you.

Get a keyboard you can afford ... after all YOU are the show my man!

Regards
Drake
