I've been thinking about the name.

I think it's simple.

Gen = abbreviation for Genesis.  Definition: the origin or coming into existence of something

OS = Operating system

Gen  OS or Genos = New (arranger ) operating system

I had to think Yamahaeze to get there.

;D

Probably will indeed stand for Generation Operating System.

That is interesting, I had just assumed it meant "offspring" from the Greek as in descendant of Tyros.

My interpretation comes directly from my Merriam Webster Dictionary.

May I suggest less of a mouthful than "Yamahaeze" might be "Yamahan", with the emphasis on the first syllable? C.f. Russia/Russian, Austria/Austrian, etc.

Hi Ray,

I think your assumption is right. By the way, the name "Tyros" also comes frim ancient greek if I am not mistaken.

Hi

"Genos" in plural might be "Genossen", which in German means "enyoyed"... ;)

fikke

In ancient Greece, a genos  was a social group claiming common descent, referred to by a single name (see also Sanskrit "Gana"). Most gene seem to have been composed of noble families—Herodotus uses the term to denote noble families—and much of early Greek politics seems to have involved struggles between gene. Gene are best attested at Athens, where writers from Herodotus to Aristotle dealt with them.

This is true, but "Genossen" may also translated as companians, comrades, fellows, ...

But for a german speaking person, the name GENOS does not associate with "genießen" (enjoy) or "Genossen" (companians). It's another word stem. It sounds like more "genetic", or perhaps "genious".

Well when Yamaha finally reveals the thing in whole, we will see JUST how NEW the keyboard really is.  All indications so far suggest to me it's new and different... and the beginning of a new line of arranger keyboards.

i think Genos is for "Γένος" which bassicaly means a group of people (nation) with common descendant as fikkie wrote or a gender.
